Chapter 9 - Fleeting glance

The street was crowded with people rushing to get somewhere. Cars honked in the distance, and the sound of chatter filled the air. Aria walked slowly, her hands stuffed into the pockets of her jacket. She wasn't really paying attention to the busy street. Her mind was lost in thoughts, trying to sort through the mess inside her head.

She looked up, and that's when she saw him.

Aiden was standing across the street, leaning against a lamppost. His eyes were scanning the crowd, but then, their gazes locked. Aria felt a sudden jolt in her chest, like her heart had stopped for a second. He didn't look away. Neither did she.

Aiden's heart skipped when their eyes met. He didn't know why, but something about it made him freeze. Is she looking at me? he thought, his stomach tightening. He tried to act casual, but he couldn't pull his gaze away. It was as if everything around him faded, and there was only Aria standing across the street. For a brief moment, time seemed to stretch between them.

Why is she looking at me like that?

He quickly shifted his focus, looking down at the pavement, as if that would erase the moment. He let out a breath, hoping she hadn't noticed the way his pulse had quickened. He didn't know what was going on, but he couldn't deny it—something felt different this time.

Aria, too, felt that strange tension, like the world had gone silent around her. She stood frozen for a moment, her heart racing.

"What is this feeling? she wondered. Why did it feel like something had changed?

Then, just as suddenly as it started, Aiden looked away. His head dropped slightly, and he turned to walk into the crowd, disappearing as though nothing had happened till now .

Aria blinked, still standing there. Did I imagine it?

She stood there for a few seconds, trying to shake off the odd feeling that lingered in her chest. She looked around, hoping to find the something to distract her, but everything around her seemed to blur. The noise of the street, the people walking by, it all felt distant. Only Aiden remained in her thoughts.only aiden.

No, I'm overthinking it, she told herself. It was just a glance. Just a coincidence. Just a coincidence okay aria?"

But even as she thought it, she couldn't stop herself from looking back across the street. She half expected him to be standing there again, but he was gone.

Aiden walked down the sidewalk, his mind racing as he tried to push away the strange feeling from the moment.

What was that? he thought. Why did it feel like there was something more to it?

But he kept walking, telling himself it didn't matter. She's probably not thinking about it at all. It was just a glance. Nothing more.

Yet, his mind kept the wandering back to her eyes, the way they had locked with his. He couldn't help but wonder if she had felt it too.

Aria kept walking, her steps a little faster now. Her heart still felt unsettled, her thoughts tangled. She tried to focus on the street in front of her, but all she could think about was Aiden and that moment. Why am I still thinking about him? she asked herself. Why does it feel like something is changing?

She reached the next corner and, without meaning to, looked back across the street.

Aiden was there again.

She stopped for a second, her breath catching. He stood by the same lamppost, looking down at his phone. Aria quickly turned her gaze away, forcing herself to keep walking, her heart pounding in her chest.

Aiden saw her glance at him again, and for a split second, he thought she might come over. But she didn't. She just walked away, as if she hadn't noticed him at all. He stood there for a moment, his thoughts racing. Did she even see me? Did she feel the same thing?

Aria didn't look back. She kept walking, hoping that with every step, she would forget the strange pull she felt when she looked at him. It's nothing. Just a weird moment, she tried to convince herself. Nothing's has changed.

But deep down, she knew something had shifted. And she didn't know if she was ready for whatever that was.

It was midnight. Caleb and Aiden were standing near the gate of Aria's house, quietly talking. Since Caleb and Aria were siblings, it was also Caleb's home.

Inside, Aria called out, "Caleb! It's already 12:00 a.m. Come inside—Mamma is calling you!"

No answer.

A moment later, a voice replied from outside, "One minute, Aria! I'm coming."

But five minutes passed, and Caleb still hadn't come in. Curious and slightly annoyed, Aria tiptoed out quietly and peeked through the gate. She saw Caleb and Aiden still talking.

She opened the gate just a little. "Caleb!" she called again. She saw they both are still talking.

"Ohh i am comming i am comming " caleb said .

But before Caleb could respond, Aiden spoke. "Wait, Caleb. Take this."

"What is it?" Caleb asked.

"It's a keychain," Aiden said, holding it out. "I found it... thought you might want it."

Caleb looked at it, confused. "But it has the letter 'P' on it. My name doesn't start with P. What i supposed to do with it?"

Aiden gave a light chuckle, shrugged, and said nothing.

Caleb nodded and turned to go inside, leaving Aiden standing alone with the keychain.

Aiden then looked at Aria and extended the keychain toward her.

Aria stared at it, unsure what to say. Her eyes briefly met his, but instead of accepting it, she didn't say a word. Without a single expression, she shut the gate forcefully right in front of him.

"She was confused the whole night, wondering what exactly..."

But one question lingered...

Why the letter P?

What did it mean?

And who was it really meant for?
