Chapter 125 - Sage Arts - 3

"Will this secretion have any lasting effects, Lady Katsuyu?" Sasuke inquired, his gaze fixed upon the viscous fluid shimmering faintly in the soft light of the forest.

Katsuyu's gentle voice echoed through the tranquil surroundings. "When applied to an individual, this secretion serves as a guide, allowing them to perceive the natural energy that permeates all things. Should they fail to sense it even with this aid, it would indicate a lack of inherent affinity for Senjutsu."

A flicker of understanding crossed Sasuke's features.

'I recall this much from the original timelines.'

"So, similar to the toad oil of Mount Myoboku or the venom of Ryuchi Cave?"

"Indeed," Katsuyu affirmed. "Though for you, Uchiha-san, such measures might be considered… less crucial. Your affinity for natural energy, as we have discussed, is remarkably high."

Sasuke inclined his head slightly. "Then, if my aptitude is already significant, why offer the secretion at all?"

"While your inherent talent is notable," Katsuyu explained patiently, "the secretion can further enhance your senses, making the initial absorption of natural energy even more seamless. It acts as an additional catalyst, amplifying your already present connection."

A pause hung in the air before Sasuke spoke again. "However… you mentioned potential side effects?"

"A minor one," Katsuyu conceded. "Those who utilize the secretion may manifest certain… animalistic features during the initial stages of Sage Mode."

Immediately, the image of Naruto with his frog-like eyes and Jiraiya's prominent nose flashed through Sasuke's mind.

'No. Absolutely not.'

He offered a polite but firm refusal. "With all due respect, Lady Katsuyu, I would prefer to forgo the secretion. While I appreciate the offer to expedite the process, I am willing to dedicate the necessary time to achieve Sage Mode through my own inherent abilities."

A soft, almost melodic chuckle emanated from the giant slug. "Aesthetically inclined, are we, Sasuke-san? Very well. Your dedication is commendable. Let us then commence your training directly."

Sasuke nodded, a sense of anticipation settling within him. He reached for the collection of scrolls secured to his back, carefully unfastening them. Among them were the newly acquired Kiba blades, still sheathed, and several weighted training implements.

Katsuyu's eyes observed the array of scrolls with mild curiosity. "You have brought… a considerable amount of equipment for Senjutsu training."

"Indeed," Sasuke replied, laying the scrolls neatly on the forest floor. "My goal is not solely to master Sage Mode in isolation. Once I achieve a sufficient level of proficiency, I intend to integrate it into my existing ninjutsu repertoire, creating new and more potent techniques."

Katsuyu remained silent for a moment, seemingly considering his words. Then, with a gentle undulation of her form, she gestured towards a secluded clearing bathed in dappled sunlight.

"Very well, Sasuke-san. Please, position yourself comfortably in that area. The first step is to become aware of the natural energy that flows throughout this forest. Empty your mind, and focus your senses beyond your own being."

Sasuke gathered his belongings and moved to the designated spot. He sat in a meditative posture, the cool earth beneath his hands. He closed his eyes, taking a slow, deliberate breath. The sounds of the forest – the rustling leaves, the distant chirping of birds – began to fill his awareness.

'Alright. Focus. Lady Katsuyu said to sense the natural energy… It's not chakra, something different… something… pervasive'

Then he concentrated, pushing past the familiar pathways of his chakra network, seeking a new sensation, an awareness of the vibrant life force that pulsed within the ancient trees and the verdant undergrowth of Shikkotsu Forest. The journey to mastering the Senjutsu had begun.
