Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: A Queen’s Sacrifice

Seraphina's POV

Days passed and I saw no sign of Caelum or Elara. I could not Imagine the condition Lorien was in but I've made my decision.

I was pacing up and down the room when I heard footsteps heading towards my room, it must be caelum.

I quickly changed my anticipating look to a gloomy one. I had to make him believe me.

The door opened, and three maids walked in hurriedly, holding a tray of food each. They placed the trays on the table and went out.

Caelum stepped in arrogantly, I wish he could die on the spot!

I was on the floor resting my head on the bed's structure, it was time to get into action.

"Caelum… you have destroyed me! You took my pride from me!" I shouted and ran to him, holding him by the collar.

"Now your senses have returned to your head." He replied as he pushed me back to the bed.

I forced tears out of my eyes and closed them. " my dignity."

"I brought food to you myself, Seraphina and the other trays contain some fruits to make you stay fresh for me." He stated.

"I don't want them." I blurted out gently.

"Very well, I'll continue torturing Lorien…

"I'll marry you!" I interrupted him and watched as he grinned ear to ear. I was disgusted by what I said.

"Don't play with me Seraphina."

"I'm serious," I replied as I lowered my head, my plan was working out fine. "Since you had taken advantage of me,duskbane won't accept me as their queen anymore even Lorien won't trust me."

I afford it, a smile escaped my lips.

"Then the wedding bells shall ring, Lorien will watch both of us get married before I release him."

I got on my knees, my head still bowed.

"I have a condition and it is to let Lorien go before we get wedded. If you don't let him go soon, I will change my mind." I declared as Caelum stood in silence.

"I'll let go of Lorien after the marriage, he won't watch us get married then. This is the most sensible decision you've made in your entire life, my little one." He retorted happily and left the room.

I smiled mischievously, little did Caelum know I was planning a rebellion against him.

~~~~~~
Caelum's POV
The wedding I had with Seraphina was short and boring. I never thought she could eventually agree to marry me.
She must have loved Lorien so much and was willing to do anything for him. I ordered the maids to take her back to her chamber when I found her dressed and ready in my room after our marriage.
I will touch her after she is finally my eternal mate.
Duskbane's capital fell under my control as I got married to Seraphina. The kingdom had lost its head so most of Lorien's allies had started to side with me.
I was gaining more power and support.
A guardsman broke into my room, obviously scared.
"So the new trend is to start breaking into people's chambers?" I yelled at him and he knelt immediately.
"I am so sorry to inform you but…but…
"But what!" I interrupted him angrily, I had no time fig this bullshit!
"The alpha has escaped, please forgive me, your majesty."
Lorien has escaped!
I hurried out of my chamber as I pushed the guard away, this must be a lie!
I got to the dungeon and entered his cell, no one was there. My plans were going fine and Lorien's escape could make things hard for me.
"Find him! Search everywhere!." I commanded and headed to Seraphina's room.
~~~~~~

Seraphina's POV

I heard loud footsteps outside my doorway. Footsteps of many people, they must be looking for Lorien! He had escaped!

I became glad.

I could not help him directly, so I prayed to the moon goddess to give him strength; she appeared in my dreams and answered my wish.

A maid entered my room, holding a tray.

"What's happening?" I asked innocently.

"The Duskbane alpha has escaped, my Queen." She replied as she dropped the tray beside you.

"You….

"Leave us!" Caelum called from the doorway which made the maid scramble out.

"Lorien is a wonder, isn't he?" He asked.

"I knew he'd escape one day."

"Well, it's too late for him to make any amends now because I'll open the portal to the demon realm and make you my eternal mate."

I suddenly choked, eternal mate?

This was his big plan all along.

"Whatever." I retorted sounding unworried.

"Don't attempt to leave this room, Seraphina; I'll kill you myself if you do." He stated and stormed out of the room.

I suddenly became weak.

I can endure being his wife for a while but an eternal mate? I went down on my knees and started praying. I was a moon goddess in the past so I needed help from anywhere.

I needed a miracle!

Suddenly the room became dim and a bright light shone in the corner, it was the goddess!

She stood mid-air, her long hair glowed as she opened her eyes.

I only saw her shadow in my dream, this was the first time I'd seen her in real life.

"You called for me." Her voice said in a whisper.

"I need your help, goddess. I can't become Caelum's eternal mate and he will kill me if he knows that Lorien's child is in me." I replied softly.

"The prophecy will come true; we can't change fate, nor can we cheat it."

I wondered the the prophecy she was talking about.'

"Your Alpha father was a cursed werewolf that tried to stop Caelum centuries back. He used his strength and allies to prevent him from opening the portal to the demon realm."

If Lorien's father could not kill Caelum then what can Lorien do? I pondered.

"You were a moon priestess in your past life Seraphina, that explains the mark on your hand. Some of your enemies lied against you and did unjust things against your name so you were burned alive as a traitor."

Burned alive? What kind of fate did Seraphina have?

"I'll protect your child and let no harm come to him but I can't say the same for you."

I looked at her hopefully, as long as my unborn baby was fine. I don't mind whatever happens to me.

"I agree, Godess." I muttered." what about Lorien? Is he okay?" I asked.

"Lorien is okay and free, and soon, he'll discover his destiny, but be mindful of anything you do, Seraphina. Whatever you do now affects your future." She said and came to me, then placed her hand on my hand; I felt peace.

"My shield is around your child now; no dark force shall harm him, not even Caelum." She added and turned into the wind gradually then disappeared completely.

I had mixed emotions, different thoughts reeled in my head. How am I supposed to handle the situation? I was relieved that Lorien was fine.

I was lost in thoughts when four maids walked in; they had trays in their hands, and the content was not good. I got up and looked at them curiously.

"What's happening?"

"We're here to get you ready for the ritual, my queen." They said in unison and bowed third heads.

I became worried, too worried. A ritual? What ritual? This was too much for me to bear, Lorien must come quickly and save me from Caelum's evil claws.

After I was adorned up as a bride but in black attire, I was led out. A black veil was over my face, so I had no idea about where we were heading, but I had my knife with me. I was prepared for anything.

I was made to sit down and I could hear the nonstop chanting of an old man. I kept calm.

"You look beautiful."

Caelum whispered beside me.

He was right beside me, and I knew it; the veil was lifted from my head, and I scanned the area.

There were just the three of us. Me, Caelum, and the old man. I paid no attention to the scary things laid in our front.

"Thank you," I replied giving him a fake smile.

"Get ready to rule the world with me Seraphina. If you comply, we will be the greatest and most powerful couple in the world." He said.

"I've thought about it, and I realize I was never meant to be a queen in Duskbane; I was clouded by stupid love that hid my worth. I know my place now, Caelum." I retorted sweetly placing my head on his shoulder.

"I'm glad you recognize your place, my little one; I'll give you jewels and riches of the world once we're together in spirit and soul ."

I nodded plotting my next move.

"This woman's heart and mind is not clear to you, my king." The old man said with his eyes closed. "Her mind must be clean and pure to you if we want to continue."

I was expecting that.

Caelum gave me a disapproving look.

"You were pretending!"

"You think I'd agree to your foolish decisions, you fool!" I yelled back at him and brought out my knife swiftly, aiming at his chest.
