Wife?
"You mean Hinata? That was from a year ago," Naruto said with a big smile, ready to introduce Hinata to Sasuke.
To Naruto, the word Wife wasn't anything serious. He'd once asked his brother what it meant, and Menma had simply explained, "It means a close friend." So Naruto really thought Wife was just another word for a buddy. No resistance, no pressure.
A year ago, Naruto met the sweet and shy Hinata thanks to Kishimoto's divine matchmaking. And of course, his big brother Menma stepped in to help smooth the path of love—no detours, only direct routes to the heart.
When Hinata was bullied by some thugs, Menma immediately intervened. In his base form, he wasn't strong enough to overwhelm the Hyuga guard. But Menma had a cheat code—Kurama.
The moment he activated Nine Tails Mode, his power skyrocketed from Chūnin to Jōnin level. Hinata's guard didn't stand a chance. Menma beat him soundly and repeatedly, venting his irritation.
Who the hell interrupts my little brother's love story?
Menma didn't hold back. Once the guard was out of chakra, Menma still kept going until the man was half-dead. Then, he grabbed the unconscious guard and walked back over to Naruto and Hinata.
"Brother, did you get the bad guys?" Naruto asked excitedly, seeing the limp body being dragged along.
"Don't be afraid, Hinata," he added, smiling comfortingly. Then he reached out and gave Hinata a gentle head-pat kill, stroking her hair just like Menma often did to him.
So soft… No wonder my brother keeps doing this to me, Naruto thought.
Hinata remained blushing from beginning to end.
Menma's lips curled up slightly. Not bad, little bro. You're learning fast.
But before he could savor the moment, he sensed more chakra signatures closing in fast.
Tch. More interruptions.
Knowing who was coming, Menma took Naruto and quickly left the scene.
"Lady Hinata!"
"She went that way!"
"Move quickly!"
Moments later, a group of Hyuga clan members arrived—recognizable by their shared Byakugan.
That evening, Menma filled Jiraiya in on everything. He asked him to bring him and Naruto to the Hyuga clan the next day to apologize in person. Jiraiya, realizing this was a great excuse to avoid dealing with the Third Hokage, quickly agreed.
So the next day, Jiraiya swaggered toward the Hyuga estate, flanked by Menma and Naruto.
The Hyuga Clan—one of Konoha's oldest and most prestigious families. Known for their unique bloodline limit, the Byakugan, and their Gentle Fist techniques, they were also infamous for their internal hierarchy: the main family and the branch family. The main family inherited the clan's secrets and privileges, while the branch family existed to serve and protect them—often at great personal cost.
When the trio arrived, Hiashi Hyuga and several elders were already at the gate, along with Hinata. Hinata's cheeks turned pink the moment she spotted Naruto's bright blond hair in the distance. Memories of the day before swirled in her head.
"Sis, you're blushing!" said a cheerful voice beside her. It was Hanabi Hyuga, Hinata's younger sister.
"Ah!" Hinata quickly covered her face in embarrassment.
From a distance, Menma noticed and smirked. A seed has been planted. That's a good start.
"Hiashi, you didn't need to make such a grand gesture," Jiraiya said with an awkward chuckle. If I'd known it would be like this, I might not have agreed… Seems Menma went a bit overboard yesterday.
"No, no—it's an honor to have you visit, Lord Jiraiya," Hiashi replied respectfully. He had no choice. Word in the village was that the Third Hokage intended to pass on the title to Jiraiya. On top of that, Jiraiya had grown close to the Uchiha clan, too.
But most importantly—last night, the injured Hyuga guard woke up and revealed everything.
How old is this kid? Already Jōnin-level? Another Kakashi?
Hiashi had immediately launched an investigation. Within a single night, they learned the truth—Menma Uzumaki, son of the Fourth Hokage. A boy who, once cloaked in an orange chakra shroud, exploded in power and crushed his opponent in seconds.
An orange coat…? Don't tell me…
Hiashi studied Menma carefully. As if sensing his gaze, Menma looked up and met his eyes. Their stares locked for a moment.
Then Menma smiled faintly and said, "Greetings, Lord Hiashi. I'm Menma Uzumaki."
"I've heard of you. Minato's son, wise and brave," Hiashi responded, casually name-dropping the Fourth Hokage to gauge Menma's reaction.
"Thank you," Menma replied calmly.
Not far away, Naruto was happily chatting with Hinata, while Hanabi looked on curiously.
Is this the blond boy who made my sister blush? she wondered.
"Oi, Naruto! Come here!" Menma suddenly called out.
Naruto jogged over, still grinning. "What's up, Brother?"
Without a word, Menma flicked his forehead with terrifying precision.
"OWWWWWW!"
Naruto hugged his head in pain, squatting down.
"Are you okay, Naruto?" Hinata rushed over, her shyness forgotten.
Menma gave him a sidelong glance. "Show some manners. That's the Hyuga Patriarch you just ignored."
Realizing his blunder, Naruto scrambled to his feet and bowed quickly. "Hello, Patriarch Hyuga! I'm Naruto Uzumaki!"
"Welcome," Hiashi said with a chuckle. The scene warmed his heart. Menma felt more like a father than a brother—protective, strict, and gentle.
Hiashi couldn't help but think of his own brother, Hizashi. Though twins, they had been separated by fate—Hiashi became the head of the main family, while Hizashi was assigned to the branch.
When the Cloud Village kidnapped Hinata years ago, it was Hiashi who fought and killed the kidnapper. The Cloud, however, denied all wrongdoing and demanded the body of the Hyuga clan's leader.
Rather than start a war, Konoha yielded. Hizashi, of his own will, chose to die in Hiashi's place—his one and only act of freedom.
"Patriarch Hyuga," Naruto asked shyly, "Can I come play here sometimes?"
"Of course," Hiashi replied with a smile.
Hinata's heart leapt with joy. This way, she could see Naruto more often—and it would strengthen the Hyuga Clan's relationship with Jiraiya's side.
Nice job, Naruto, Menma thought proudly. I don't even need to make the openings anymore—you're creating them yourself.
Just then, a quiet voice cut in.
"Me or her—you choose," Sasuke said, staring at Naruto.
He'd been watching from the side, watching Naruto touch Hinata's hair… and it made him unreasonably irritated. It felt like someone had stolen his favorite toy.
PFFT.
Menma burst into laughter.
Oh, Erzhuzi… are you jealous?
