Chapter 13
Lin Bai paused his thoughts and silently said, "System, introduce yourself."
[Borrowing the physical training system to serve you.]
Ah, not this sentence again. It's an unintelligent system, not impressive at all. Bad review!
Lin Bai quickly reacted, opening the system panel silently. A translucent panel appeared before him, with a question mark in the upper right corner. Without much thought, he opened the manual.
[Are you tired of monotonous training? Struggling with the dullness of daily exercise? The physical cultivation system is designed for cultivators like you.]
[Once a month, find an opportunity and choose a target. When the target practices daily, you can project your soul into their mind, sharing their insights. Depending on compatibility, your understanding can increase by at least tenfold.]
[Borrowing the physical training system, it's your rightful privilege!]
[Warning: It's advised to start with targets at a low cultivation level and gradually adapt to the state of the soul body.]
"Did some great being hear my wish? A system actually showed up to help me train."
Lin Bai was overjoyed. Before he could savor the moment, something didn't feel right. Soul skills on Douluo Continent were gained through soul hunting, requiring no training at all. He realized that a soul skill he didn't possess would be useless!
"No, it's still useful. Just like with Tang San, I could hide in his mind and secretly learn Tang Sect techniques, like the Xuantian Technique and Purple Demon Eyes."
"But I can't use them. Aren't the Wandering Dragon Steps and Dragon Subduing Palm in the Yin Yang Nine Dragons Art better than Tang San's skills?"
"Maybe I could secretly learn the secret techniques of the three sects: Subduing the Sect, Seven Orifices, Dragon Transformation, and Ring Explosion. But as I get stronger, I'll have the chance to obtain them. The only option left is to develop my martial spirit, unlocking its full potential."
Lin Bai's eyes burned with excitement. A few days ago, he'd evolved his twin martial spirits into super martial spirits: the Ruyi Universe Spear and the Silkworm Dragon.
The Ruyi Qiankun Spear was the ultimate golden martial spirit, requiring an advanced understanding of metal properties. Its features included ultimate gold, the fusion of light and darkness, yin and yang conversion, the power of wishes, and the creation of magic—providing it with a flexible and unpredictable fighting style.
With Zhao Yun's martial arts inheritance, Lin Bai excelled in spear techniques, but he still lacked an understanding of martial arts theory.
"Since there's no Ultimate Golden Martial Spirit on the continent, I'll have to figure it out myself. Even though light and dark attributes are rare, there are still Martial Spirits with those attributes. I can learn from others."
Lin Bai formulated a plan to use the system immediately. It was still a holiday, and since he was alone in Xiahe Village, no one would disturb him.
"System, search for the keyword 'darkness.'"
As soon as Lin Bai finished speaking, his vision went dark. After a dizzying sensation, the light returned. He now saw a dimly lit room, intricate decorations, and the faint sobbing of a girl.
"Where am I?" Lin Bai muttered to himself, but before he could process the situation, the crying stopped, and his vision shifted. "Who's talking?"
Can she hear me?
Lin Bai froze. It seemed the girl could indeed hear him. He pondered whether to be honest with her. Being transparent would help her cooperate with him, but there were risks—she might find it too unsettling and reveal it to others, delaying his progress.
After a moment's thought, Lin Bai decided to be upfront. He didn't need to summon his martial spirit yet, and his time was too precious to waste.
"I am your ancestor, and the one speaking to you is a remnant soul. What is your name, descendant?"
The first type was always to lie with good intentions.
The girl wiped her tears, clearly skeptical. She could hear the voice, but couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from. "You're not my ancestor. Stop lying to me. My name is Zhu Zhuqing. You must have heard of the Xingluo Zhu family, so there's no need to try and fool me."
Her voice was crisp and sweet. Lin Bai froze—was it really Zhu Zhuqing? Was the Nether Civet Spirit a dark attribute?
He quickly recalled Zhu Zhuqing's soul skills, most of which were connected to darkness and shadows. The term "ethereal" also had ties to darkness. However, in the original story, she was more prominent for agility attacks, with the dark attribute being secondary.
"Could this be a coincidence?" Lin Bai thought. "Martial spirits with pure dark attributes are rare, and there aren't even any that specialize in darkness."
Despite his initial disappointment, he knew the search opportunity was used up for this month, so he'd have to make do with it for now.
Zhu Zhuqing, clearly startled, asked, "Who are you? Why can I hear your voice?"
Her tone was tinged with anger, and she began searching the room frantically.
"Don't move," Lin Bai said. "I'm a little disoriented."
Using Zhu Zhuqing's perspective, Lin Bai observed the surroundings, but it felt strange.
"Ah! You're in my mind! Come out!" Zhu Zhuqing cried, her face pale, frantically slapping her body as if trying to rid herself of something she considered unclean.
Lin Bai panicked. He didn't want to cause any trouble. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you. You can tell I'm not lying this time."
"I don't believe you," Zhu Zhuqing scoffed, though she stopped and began circulating her soul power, checking her body for abnormalities. Satisfied, she sighed in relief.
Lin Bai also relaxed, then steered the conversation. "I heard you crying. What happened?"
Zhu Zhuqing's expression turned grim. She sat on a stool, looking down. "My sister came to tell me today that my fiancé left me, running off alone."
Though she was strong, Zhu Zhuqing had her breaking point. Dai Mubai's departure had been the last straw.
Lin Bai realized something. Zhu Zhuqing, at the same age as him, had awakened her Nether Civet Cat Martial Spirit that year, and her innate soul power was at level eight. Her talent surpassed that of her sister, Zhu Zhuyun.
Zhu Zhuqing's age made her a perfect partner for Dai Mubai to perform their Martial Soul Fusion Technique. But Dai Mubai, under the pressure of competition for the throne, fled, leaving Zhu Zhuqing to shoulder the blame. She was left to face all the malice, and her character had been deeply scarred.
