Chapter 14: The Caravan's Secret

Kael paced in the dimly lit room, the flickering torchlight casting long shadows across the stone walls. His mind raced with possibilities. The caravan Garrick, Lira, and the others had been sent to investigate wasn't just any trade convoy—it had an air of secrecy surrounding it. Rumors had reached him of strange goods being transported, and Kael's instincts told him there was more to this caravan than met the eye.

The villagers had become somewhat of a makeshift force, but Kael knew their limitations. They were too few, too inexperienced for a full-scale engagement. His small force had managed to fend off any immediate threats, but a real test loomed ahead. This caravan might just offer the resources or information he needed to build his army.

As the hours stretched on, Kael received a messenger who had tracked down the scouting party. They'd reached the caravan and were preparing to return. However, there was something unexpected—Garrick and Lira had found more than just goods or recruits. The caravan was heavily guarded, and its contents were unlike any Kael had anticipated. There were weapons, but more intriguingly, there were prisoners—displaced survivors and former soldiers, shackled and chained.

Kael's hand clenched into a fist. These people were the kind of individuals he needed: hardened warriors, survivors, and fighters who could be molded into the backbone of his growing army. He ordered his scouts to stay low and observe the caravan, but he would need to make his next move carefully.

Hours later, the scout party returned with a clear plan: they would ambush the caravan under the cover of darkness, freeing the prisoners and taking any supplies they could use. Kael knew this was a risk, but it was a necessary one. His growing force needed to be more than just a collection of survivors—they needed to be an army that could strike fear into the hearts of enemies.

Before he gave the final orders, Kael took a moment to reflect. He was not just a leader of men anymore; he was becoming something else—something greater. His survival depended on this army, and every choice, every action would shape the future of his empire.

With a decisive nod, Kael turned to his loyal companions and said, "Prepare for the night. We make our move."
