Chapter 26 - Chapter 26:The Battle of the Red Talons

Chapter 26: The Battle of the Red Talons

The air was heavy with tension as Kael stood at the edge of the town's eastern gate, gazing out into the growing darkness. The once quiet town was now a bustling center of activity, filled with soldiers, merchants, and townsfolk eager to witness the first test of their new ruler's strength. Word of the impending battle had spread quickly, and while the people were nervous, they were also filled with a strange sense of pride. Their new lord was no mere ruler; he was a conqueror, a force to be reckoned with. And in just a few hours, they would witness that power firsthand.

The Red Talons were on their way.

Kael had spent the last few hours preparing his forces, reviewing their positions, and making sure everything was in place. His generals were each responsible for one part of the defense, while Kael himself would lead the charge. This was his battle, and he would show the world the kind of ruler he intended to be.

Behind him, General Morn stood at attention, his armor gleaming in the fading light. The large, imposing man had always been one of Kael's most loyal subordinates, and now, as his right hand, he was tasked with ensuring that everything went smoothly. The general was already prepared to lead the troops stationed in the town, waiting for Kael's signal to strike.

"Morn," Kael said, his voice steady and resolute. "Have you heard any more about the Red Talons?"

The general nodded, his face hard as stone. "Yes, my lord. Their leader, Falros the Red, is a ruthless warrior. He's been known to take towns and villages with lightning speed, and he's never been defeated in battle. His men are mercenaries, loyal only to gold and blood. They are unpredictable but skilled."

Kael's eyes narrowed. A band of mercenaries, huh? It didn't matter how skilled they were or how ruthless their leader was. They were nothing more than another obstacle standing in his way. And obstacles were meant to be crushed.

"I'll deal with him personally," Kael said, turning away from Morn and walking toward the front line.

The system's voice hummed in his mind, its cold tone offering a reminder.

Task Available: Eliminate the Red Talons.

Objective: Defeat Falros the Red and his mercenaries, ensuring the town remains under your control.

Reward: Increased power, new abilities unlocked.

Kael smirked, the thrill of battle already beginning to surge through him. The promise of more power was enough to fuel his determination. With every enemy he defeated, the system's rewards grew stronger, and his own power swelled. This battle would be no different. In fact, he could already feel the pulse of the system preparing to grant him something extraordinary. His resolve strengthened, and his sense of purpose became clearer than ever.

Nightfall was now upon them. The sky had turned a deep shade of purple, the stars beginning to appear as the first signs of the Red Talons' approach flickered in the distance. The sounds of horses' hooves echoed in the night air as their scouts drew closer, and Kael knew it was only a matter of time before they arrived at the gates.

Morn approached, his face grim. "They are within striking distance, my lord. The Red Talons are not far behind."

Kael gave a single nod, his hand gripping the hilt of his sword as he stepped forward. His army, small but powerful, was gathered behind him. He had trained them for this moment, and now it was time to put their loyalty and strength to the test.

"They won't be getting through us," Kael muttered, his voice a low growl. "Prepare the men. I'll meet them head-on."

Morn's eyes widened slightly, but he didn't question Kael's orders. The general bowed his head and turned to his men, issuing commands to prepare for battle.

As the Red Talons drew nearer, the distant sound of their war cries began to carry on the wind. Falros the Red, their leader, was known for his brutal tactics. His soldiers were notorious for their savagery, and Kael's forces were about to face them head-on.

"Are your men ready?" Kael asked, his eyes sharp as he turned to Morn one final time.

"They are, my lord," Morn replied. "We await your signal."

With that, Kael gave a single, decisive nod, and the battle began.

The Red Talons charged at the town's gates, their war cries ringing through the night air. The ground shook beneath the hooves of their horses as they surged forward, their weapons raised high. The mercenaries were a fierce sight—well-armed and ruthless. But Kael had trained his soldiers just as fiercely, and they were ready.

With a shout, Kael raised his sword and led the charge. His men followed closely behind him, moving with practiced precision. They met the Red Talons at the gates, and the clash of steel against steel rang out in the air. The night erupted into chaos as Kael's forces engaged with the mercenaries.

Kael's blade moved with deadly grace, cutting through the enemy forces with ease. His speed and strength were unmatched, each swing of his sword sending enemies tumbling to the ground. His men followed his lead, cutting through the Red Talons with ruthless efficiency. The mercenaries, though skilled, were no match for the precision and discipline of Kael's troops.

But it was Falros the Red who would be the true test.

As Kael fought his way through the battlefield, he finally spotted the leader of the Red Talons. Falros stood at the back of the mercenary line, his massive frame towering over his men. His armor was blood red, and his long, dark hair whipped in the wind. His eyes burned with a ferocity that matched his reputation, and in his hands, he wielded a massive battle axe.

Kael's heart quickened as he locked eyes with the mercenary leader. This was the man who had caused so much suffering to the neighboring villages, the man who would test Kael's strength like no other. And Kael would not back down.

With a roar, Falros charged forward, his battle axe swinging with terrifying power. The clash of steel echoed in the air as Kael met him head-on, his own sword raised to parry the strike. The impact sent a shockwave through the ground, and Kael's muscles screamed as he pushed against the force of the blow. Falros was strong, but Kael was faster, his agility allowing him to slip past the mercenary leader's defenses.

The battle raged on around them, but Kael and Falros were locked in a brutal duel of their own. Every strike was a test of strength and skill, and Kael could feel the power of the system surging within him as the battle continued.

Task Update: Defeat Falros the Red.

The words echoed in Kael's mind, pushing him to fight harder. With a final, powerful strike, Kael drove his sword into Falros's side, piercing through the mercenary leader's armor. Falros let out a strangled cry before collapsing to the ground.

The Red Talons, seeing their leader fall, began to retreat, their morale shattered. Kael's forces surged forward, pushing them back and securing their victory.

As the battle ended, Kael stood over the fallen body of Falros, his chest heaving with exertion. The town was his, and his forces had proven their strength. The system's voice rang in his mind once again, offering its rewards for the task completed.

Task Completed: Falros the Red has been defeated.

Objective: The Red Talons have been eradicated.

Reward: Power surge, new abilities unlocked.

Kael felt the familiar pulse of energy coursing through him, his strength growing with each victory. This was just the beginning, and already, the path to power was unfolding before him. As the town's new ruler, Kael knew that he would stop at nothing to expand his reach. The Red Talons were only the first of many enemies he would face.

And with that, Kael's empire continued to grow, one victory at a time.
