Chapter 14 - Intelligence Gathering

"First of all, we have a gladiator from the medieval era." Chen Ze said, operating his laptop before a video of a gladiator battle was shown on the screen. Although Mira didn't know what he was talking about, Levin nodded, could see why the scientist said that. It seemed the history of the two worlds somehow overlapped at some point. "As you can see, she is a…. Scary woman." Chen Ze shuddered, and coincidentally enough, right after that, the video showed how the woman there didn't bulge even when she was burned so cruelly, yet just slammed her enemy's body to the ground repeatedly like her enemy was a ragdoll.

"Hey, that is not nice." Mira furrowed her brows, looking at Chen Ze in displeasure.

"Well, yeah, it is not nice, but you cannot deny that she is scary." The scientist still shuddered. "She has already killed four players by now, and honestly, she was the main target for me to cooperate. However, after observing her for about a day, I decided to give up on that thought instantly."

"Oh? Why?" Levin turned his attention back to the silver-haired man. "I mean, she is strong, reliable, and seems to be approachable, right? At least, I doubt that I can match her physical strength. Seems like an ideal partner for me." Even he himself showed interest in making a partnership with the gladiator. After all, despite his amazing marksmanship ability and hand-to-hand combat, he could still bleed and feel the pain. By the look of the woman on the screen, it seemed like she wasn't bothered by that. It would be great to have a tank as a partner.

"Of course, you will say that." Chen Ze rolled his eyes sarcastically. "The problem is that she is too stupid! Look! She didn't even feel bothered by the fact that she exposed herself in the daylight! She put herself as a target just to fight against the others even though she can just go away and take a rest until the crow man ends the game, but no! She is too battle-hungry, bloodthirsty, and reckless for her own good! I don't know what is her past and why would she do something stupid like that, but no, I cannot work with someone like that." The tone in his voice was absolute, indicating there was no room to negotiate here.

Levin also nodded solemnly, could see where the scientist came from. He also felt that the woman was too reckless. It was one thing to be a battel-junky, but it was another thing to be reckless and didn't know when to stop. However, he felt that she was not as simple as that. It seemed Mira also felt the same as she tugged his sleeves gently.

"Uncle…" She whimpered pitifully.

"Don't worry." Levin patted her head gently, knowing what the girl was thinking about. "Maybe, we will have a chance of meeting her in the future. Also, she is an adult who is selected for this game too and has already killed four of her enemies, so don't worry too much about her, okay?"

"Um." The girl nodded shortly, leaning her body back against the couch.

"Next, we have the shadow controller." Chen Ze interrupted their moment rudely. "I don't know if what I got is everything he has, but while his ability is pretty versatile, the restriction is too great. He depends too much on his shadow, and while the abandoned city is a perfect place to fight for him, once he is forced to move, I don't know what he would do. Also, it is just a hypothesis, but he always tried to finish his fight in under five minutes, and if he failed to do that, he would fly away immediately, which indicates that he had a time limit, and that would put him at a disadvantage. With your weapon, it will be easy to beat him since your weapon always shines brightly before it shoots its laser, right?" He stared at the laser gun that Levin carried with eyes full of curiosity.

Levin put his gun away unconsciously, hiding it away from Chen Ze's sight. Even though he knew by now that the scientist was not an enemy, he could recognize the madness when he saw one, and he was afraid of his laser gun's fate.

"Okay, so, he is not a threat to us, right?" Levin cleared his throat a little. "But he is still alive, right? That means he should be capable, right?"

"Oh, yeah, just like the crazy woman before, he managed to kill four players, and all of them were from the sneak attack. He is a veteran assassin, and you have to be careful about someone lurking from the darkness." Levin said. Mira shuddered, her mind bringing her back to the ambush last night.

They continued this information-gathering meeting for the next fifteen minutes, and while Levin had a solemn gaze on his face, Mira was in awe at how different and unique each player's abilities were from so many different worlds.

There was a player who could control electricity, use music as a weapon, manipulate energy like some sort of a superhero, and there was even a player who could transform into a massive dragon that could breathe fire. A fucking dragon! Its size was outrageously massive that Mira said it was even bigger than the boat she lived on in her old world. Levin thought inwardly that he would have to avoid that player at all cost.

"So, out of 500 players in this game, 70 are dumped into this area, and there are only 14 players left including us. All the 14 players left have already met the requirement to advance to the next round. Well… All of them, except for you, right?" Levin asked.

Chen Ze could only scratch the back of his head in embarrassment. Indeed, he was the only one who hadn't gotten the blood of the other players yet. Hell, even Mira had already gotten one even though it was given by Levin. He couldn't help it, though. As a scientist/mechanic, his place was not in the front line. That was why he desperately sought a chance to work together with a fighter like Levin.

"So, what kind of enemy do you want me to kill?" Levin asked. "Don't ask for someone outrageous like a dragon one, okay? I am not that good." He warned first so that the scientist didn't go overboard with his request.

"Oh, don't worry. What I want you to get is him." Chen Ze opened another video, and there they saw the record of a teenage boy – about 14 years old – who had the power to control the gravity around him.

Levin furrowed his brows, knowing that he couldn't underestimate the gravity user. Even though the boy was just a teenager, Levin could see that he was a master of his craft. The way he incorporated the power of gravity into his fighting style was genius, using it to lighten up his body to help him move better. That gave him an unfair advantage in a close combat situation which he used to crush his enemies who insisted on fighting in a close range.

There was also the move that the boy called 'Gravity Crush' in which the boy created intense gravitational pressure on his enemies, effectively pinning them to the ground or crushing them under immense weight. Getting into his range would be dangerous for him.

'So, that only leaves a long-ranged combat, huh? That's good. At least, I feel confident with my marksmanship.' Levin nodded at himself, gripping the laser gun in his hand tightly.

However, what happened next took everyone off guard. Before they could even discuss what to do about this gravity user, they were suddenly greeted by a cheerful voice coming from their back, saying, "Hey, that's me! Are you going to target me next?"

And right after that, hell broke loose.
