Stowing away on a ship bound for Balbadd had seemed like a brilliant idea at the time. After all, what's the worst that could happen? Well, as it turns out, quite a lot. The ship's crew didn't take kindly to unexpected passengers, especially ones who ate their food and snored louder than the ship's horn. So, there I was, caught red-handed (or perhaps bread-handed, given I was mid-bite into a stolen loaf), facing a group of very disgruntled sailors.
"Well, well, what do we have here?" the captain sneered, arms crossed and foot tapping impatiently.
"Uh, surprise inspection?" I offered with a sheepish grin.
Before the captain could decide between throwing me overboard or making me swab the decks until Balbadd, a deafening roar echoed across the ocean. The ship lurched violently, sending everyone sprawling. Scrambling to my feet, I rushed to the deck, only to be greeted by a sight that made my earlier predicament seem like a minor hiccup.
Rising from the ocean depths was a monstrous creature resembling an oversized blue eel, complete with a gleaming white horn that looked suspiciously like a pearl. It had the body of an eel and the temperament of a tax collector during audit season. Sailors screamed, some running in circles, others attempting to hide behind barrels as if wood could protect them from a sea monster's wrath.
Just as I was contemplating whether to fight, flee, or faint, the System's interface flashed before my eyes:
Emergency Quest: Defeat the Sea Monster
"Oh, sure," I muttered. "Because taking down a sea monster single-handedly is just another day at the office."
Drawing a deep breath and summoning every ounce of courage (and insanity), I prepared to confront the beast. But before diving into that chaos, let's take a detour to another part of the world where two familiar faces were embarking on their own journey.
Meanwhile, miles away from my current predicament, Aladdin and Morgiana were making their way toward Balbadd. Aladdin, with his ever-present cheerful demeanor, was regaling Morgiana with tales of his past adventures.
"And then," Aladdin exclaimed, eyes sparkling, "Ugo knocked that giant right off his feet!"
Morgiana, ever the stoic listener, raised an eyebrow. "Is that so?"
Their journey hadn't been without its challenges. Morgiana, a Fanalis warrior with unparalleled strength and agility, had faced numerous adversaries in her quest for freedom. Her crimson hair and piercing eyes often drew attention, but few dared to challenge her. Aladdin, on the other hand, was a Magi—a rare magician with the ability to summon and control Djinns. Despite his youthful appearance, he possessed wisdom beyond his years.
As they traveled, the duo encountered a peculiar sight—a man, stark naked, attempting to fish with his bare hands. Aladdin tilted his head, curiosity piqued.
"Excuse me, sir," Aladdin called out, "but why are you fishing without any clothes?"
The man turned, revealing a chiseled physique and a confident grin. "Ah, you've caught me in a... vulnerable moment. Name's Sinbad."
Morgiana's eyes narrowed. "Sinbad? Aladdin, close your eyes, his a pervert! "
Sinbad tried to calm the situation down and explained himself, chuckling and rubbing the back of his head. "Well, you see, I was drunk and fell asleep beneath a tree, and some bandits found my sleeping body. They made off with my weapons and belongings, including my clothes."
Aladdin's eyes widened. "Bandits? That's terrible!"
Sinbad shrugged. "Hahaha. Well, I am responsible for my predicament. Say, you two wouldn't happen to be heading to Balbadd, would you?"
Morgiana nodded cautiously. "We are."
"Mind if I tag along?" Sinbad asked, flashing a disarming smile. "Safety in numbers and all that."
Aladdin beamed. "Of course! The more, the merrier!"
Morgiana sighed, casting a sidelong glance at Sinbad. "Just... find some clothes first."
Back on the beleaguered ship, I faced down the monstrous eel, which seemed to be enjoying the chaos it was causing. Sailors were still in full panic mode, with one even attempting to negotiate with a barrel for safe passage.
"Alright, big guy," I muttered, cracking my knuckles. "Let's dance."
Channeling the newfound strength granted by the System, I leaped into action. Dodging the creature's lunges and snapping jaws, I aimed for its gleaming horn, suspecting it to be a weak point. With a well-placed punch, the horn shattered, causing the beast to wail in pain before retreating into the depths.
The crew stared in stunned silence before erupting into cheers. The captain approached, clapping a hand on my shoulder.
"Looks like we owe you one," he admitted begrudgingly.
I grinned. "Does this mean I get to stay on board?"
He sighed. "Fine. But you're on dish duty."
As I set to work scrubbing pots, I couldn't help but chuckle.
