Chapter 2 - Desert

Kade's eyes narrowed as he tried to adjust to the bright sunshine beaming down from all around him.

Grains of sand gently lifted off of the rising desert as the winds carried it across to far off places, he had to shield his eyes in order to avoid getting any sand in them.

Is this hell? I should've expected it... He began to grow concerned, the idea of eternal suffering wasn't a concept that Kade was too keen on.

Though in these moments, something even more bizarre occurred, a faint whistling sounded out from behind him.

"Who's there?"

He called out as he turned hastily around to peer at whatever was making the noise.

Upon pivoting his eyes met an odd sight. A man was sitting upon what looked like some old ruins, they must have been made out old and brittle sandstone.

A few pillars still stood around the man as they jutted out from the sand, but it was mostly covered by the great dunes.

"Who are you?" Kade wondered.

I don't have my knife, but I could probably take him, he doesn't look very physically strong.

The man in question was tanned, donning a shapeless black robe with a head of neatly combed jet black hair, a rather strange choice for the hot desert. However he was only tall and lean, not having much muscle mass, making him not look as threatening.

There was something just inherently off about him though.

The tall and stringy man suddenly opens his mouth to speak.

"You truly are a sinister man, contemplating murdering me at the first moment of our meeting." His voice was deep yet gleamed with a tone Kade couldn't place.

He had just realised what the man in the black robe had said.

How does he know I planned to do that?

Kade is momentarily stumped before he tries to regain his composure; he contemplated his situation properly and came to a damning conclusion.

"Are you the angel of death?"

He blinks as his query echoes out through the sand.

"I am something more."

"More?"

Kade widens his eyes.

"I have a thousand faces, come closer so we may converse more easily."

He shrugs his shoulders, as he walks towards the ruins that the being is sitting on, choosing to believe in the entity's ambiguous statement that he is deeper than imaginable.

In the same vain then Kade formed another theory.

This entity most likely brought me to this place...

"That is correct."

The hooded figure utters the very thoughts that formed in his mind as he answers his question for him, confirming something within Kade's heart.

"I understand." Kade nods as he's now peering up at the robed figure sitting upon the ruins.

I am conversing with a God.

"You are 37 years old, tell me, how many did you kill in your lifetime."

Kade brushes his receding hairline back with his hand, his frail curly hair the only remnant of his past youth.

"90 people."

"What lead you to do it?"

"A curiosity turned into a desire; not feeling guilty for those who I impacted neither, in fact, it gave me purpose in an otherwise purposeless world due to the nature of my mind." Kade exhaled whilst fine grains of sand glided past him as they were picked up by the breeze.

"If that is the identifier you choose for yourself, then so be it, such a twisted disposition is why I chose you."

"Chose me?" Kade twisted his head to the side in perplexity.

"Your nature has caused entropy and chaos amongst the mortals of your own dimension, therefore you fit the needs."

"Chaos wasn't necessarily my intention, I was just satisfying myself, regardless of what results occurred."

"You seem to have a limited definition of what chaos truly means, it is not just the state of disorder, it is the measure of everything that comes apart, it is inevitability and also omnipresence. Before existence it lurked in every minute detail of entropic nothingness; even now within the confines of created universes which contain order it gets stronger with every disarrangement that occurs, whether it be someone's feeling of fear or sadness, it will contribute to the reclaiming of it's throne and overthrowing of logic."

"In the same vain, that means you have been a vessel of spreading that concept even further; purposefully causing emotional upheaval and fear in others, the disarrangement of emotions, do you understand?"

"And such entropy culminates into madness, utter madness, I am it and it is me, so I bid you to aid me in the achievement of perfect disorder." The robed man cracks a small grin around his sunken and tanned face.

Kade couldn't help but shrink back as he saw the being in front of him for what it truly was, too off-set to exist in any sane imagined existence, his eyes could almost identify the veil of madness just underneath the robed figure, but he didn't dare.

If he did, something truly undepictable would appear; ending everything there ever was and will be.

"So to do this, I will send you somewhere untainted by my beloved concepts, in order to bring this world under my fold."

"What would be my benefit from this though?" Kade musters up the courage to question the person sitting in front of him whilst he scratches his head.

"Kade Sinclair, your entire life has been lived without much feeling or direction. I am giving you an imperative, to go against everything you know in order to carve out emotions you've never felt."

His eyes widened at this.

Emotions I've never felt?

Is this the key to truly feeling, after all this time?

"I'll be lending you something in order to make your objective a little easier on yourself, I've already been plenty merciful since you've laid eyes on me, I could have simply taken on any one of my other forms and your sanity would have leapt from out of you."

Kade shuddered at this clear threat.

It was clear, even as the heartless monster that he was; he must bow his head in this instance.

The robed man snapped his fingers as a luminescent crimson-red screen appeared in front of Kade.

On it was bright white text, however it was in some spidery language that couldn't be deciphered, looking similar to ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs with it's symbol like appearance.

"Why can't I read it?"

"Because it's not suitable to know what appears on it yet."

"Fair enough-" Kade was about to finish his sentence before the being snapped it's finger again, as his world was once again veiled in black.
