The strong rays of the sun shone bright on the group of near adult age girls and boys who stood infront of the large metal gates. Two guards stood on each side of the gate doing their duty and keeping track of time. The crowd outside the gate was suffering from the heat and using the papers in their hands as fans to cool themselves down while they chattered with each other. Their parents had already dropped them off here and some travelled here from home by taxis or other vehicles to reach this destination. It was summer season and the beginning of the new students journey in the "Jinseong university" of Seoul.
Each and every student who stood outside this gate had worked their hardest to secure a seat in this infamous institution. They all had shed blood sweat and tears in hope to enter this university because the Jinseong university was not any usual educational institution.
It was the largest university not just in Seoul but in the whole Korea and in addition to that it wasn't likes other universities in the year of 1997 where same subjects relating to a specific field were taught.
It offered courses and experience in different fields depending on which field the student have chosen for themselves. It was a place from where in the last ten years many previous students had a good character built and became doctors, engineers,artists, lawyers and so much more that made a prominent impact on the people around them. That was the main reason why family members and relatives told the students to work hard to get a golden chance to be in this university and get a good future ahead of them. Some were here to fulfill family expectations that were burdened on them and some were here because of their own interests and dreams.
Yijun looked at his rectangular frame black wristwatch that showed the time was 9am and that was when they were told that the gates will be opened for them. He had dark chocolate brown eyes and thick brows. His hair was naturally fluffy and light brown. The complexion he had was natural and same to that of those of few other people who he was around,not too bright white and not too tan. The dark circles under his eyes were visible but didn't affect him in anyway to look ugly in the eyes of other and the same bags under his eyes were a proof of his determination and hardwork with which he showed that he was capable of being here. His attire was casual as he wore a simple black tee and jeans along with it. His feet had white sneakers on which there were black patterns. He wasn't dressed any special and wore what was plain and simple.
He had seen 19 suns by now and in these years he had always been a bright student,the son the entire family was proud of. And to make them even more pleased he travelled from his home city to Seoul to pass the entry exam so that he could study in this place.
His eyes went at the paper in his hand,his form and reread all informations making sure that none of it was wrong because they were to be checked later and if there was a mistake in the info that was printed on it then that could cause problems for him.
"Name:-Ahn Yijun...Field:-Medical and..." Out of nowhere excited shouts and hurrays of students surrounding him entered his ears disturbing his thoughts and he looked up to find the gates being opened and infront of them was a male teacher with little thin brown hair on his scalp and his age was in mid fourties. That man had been teaching here for a long time and with the same tone he had kept for all previous years he told them to get in line and come inside calmly without causing any trouble or chaos and the students obeyed.
Yijun while trying to get in line felt squished between two other students and slowly moved forward. One by one the grass ground was under their shoes and they were led to the main ground. Yijun's eyes scanned the building infront of him. He had viewed pictures of this university and heard talks about how large it was but now that it was right infront of him he realised it was bigger than he expected it to be.
In a straight line they were taken to the main ground,greenery all around. Tall lush green trees stood,there branches swaying a bit due to the breeze that blew. The environment was full of greenery and the sun shone a bit less here. The temperature was a little cooler than what it was before. There were nearly cut bushes and in the very center was a rectangular block of concrete painted white on which words about the university and it's purpose were carved.
Chairs were set and a wooden stage was there in which a lady stood who was there to give a speech of motivation to the students sitting there. As students of both genders sat down on the chairs making themselves comfortable,so did Yijun. Sitting in the third row's second seat holding his form was he when the women began the speech. The words flowing off her tongue as if perfected in memory. She didn't stutter once or stop at any point carrying a persona of confidence and strength.
Yijun and the others listened to the boring speech and when it ended few clapped and the rest of the audience joining them also clapped. The women then had the senior students of the university guide the boys and girls who shared same fields to their classes. Groups of students began to leave with their guides. The law group,the arts group,the literature group and finally the medical group too.
Yijun looked at the crowd of people he was with,once again stuck in between not getting any space of his own as students gave each other slight push and pulls to look around and move. The hallways were long and spacious seeming endless. They passed through other classrooms walking behind their senior. Their guide was an older student of this university perhaps three or four years older than the rest and he too had given his best years ago to be here.
They were taken to their classroom by the guide and after he left the entire group,now yijun's class began to get noisy talking with others,making friends and questioning one another.
Yijun settled into his seat at the front desk. His right eye twitched as the the loud sounds filled his ears ruining his mood which he didn't like at all.
Soon a male teacher entered their class to start their first lecture and teach them. He introduced himself as Mr Shin and without further ado asked the students to open their books and started to tell them the basics of the topic making sure they got full understanding and each question of theirs wasn't left unanswered. That was his sole job here.
Yijun peacefully now without the unpleasant sounds marked the important points on the book with his inkpen peacefully. The boy was internally hoping that the rest of the days in the Jinseong university go by without any issues. However, he was unaware that in the next few days his life was about to get entangled in such a way he couldn't have even predicted,noone could have predicted. Just in some time he wouldn't be a loner medical student immersed in his book and practical work but rather in the middle of an immense disaster in the company of some boys he was unknown to,seven boys older than him and different than him in their own ways and personalities.
But these seven boys were about to be his only support in whatever awaited him,awaited all of them in a world beyond their thoughts.
Currently the Jinseong institution was just a place to learn something from for each of the eight boys but sooner or later it will be the place from where they will be moved to the lands where they either become saviours or destructors in the future,of the future.
