Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Confrontation

At first, even though her most respected deputy leader Enrico had personally said there was a traitor in the team, and the traitor was Wesker, she actually didn't quite believe it, because she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, so she leaned more towards the traitor being Barry, who was behaving unusually.

But now seeing Wesker's photo and name prominently displayed in the underground research lab, this strong policewoman for a moment couldn't accept it.

"Why?" Jill muttered. "Why betray S.T.A.R.S?"

Aiden stood beside her, silently watching Jill. He of course knew why Wesker did it, but he couldn't say anything.

After a while, Jill's eyes became bright and firm. She took out a slide, crushed it forcefully into a ball, threw it on the ground, stomped on it, and then turned to Aiden and said, "I want to find him, then question him, and finally kill him."

The room had a complete map of the underground research lab, so Aiden and Jill learned that behind another door in the room, there was a path leading to the lab.

The two rested briefly and then set off.

Along the way, Jill was unusually silent and calm, but Aiden could tell from her constantly clenched fists how agitated she really was inside.

Aiden saw this but didn't know what to say—he could only use the time to reload the empty magazines.

The final boss fight of the mansion phase was about to begin, and he had to be fully prepared.

But when he thought of that huge monster, Aiden already had a headache. So he didn't expect to kill it with just his light weapons—he only hoped to hold out until the rescue helicopter arrived.

Very soon, the two with their own thoughts finally arrived at the lift to the lab, and at the elevator entrance, they ran into Barry.

Although they didn't know why Barry happened to be here too, Jill didn't think much of it and instead told him that Wesker was the traitor.

Barry's reaction was unexpectedly calm. He looked away and said, "Maybe you're mistaken."

This instantly made Jill's expression go cold. She tried hard to control her emotions, barely holding back from cursing.

Aiden noticed Jill's change in expression and was a bit worried that she'd flip on Barry right there, but before he could speak, Jill suddenly pressed the lift's activation switch and walked in directly.

'Rational girl, Jill, you've become more mature.' Aiden looked at Jill and sincerely sighed in his heart.

He then looked at Barry, who seemed to be deep in thought, and asked, "Hey, buddy, what are you thinking? Don't let the beautiful Miss Jill wait too long."

Barry gave Aiden a cold look, said nothing, and walked into the lift.

Aiden helplessly shrugged. Although he sympathized with Barry, the other's attitude really annoyed him.

The lift quickly reached the destination—Umbrella Corporation's most important location under the mansion: the laboratory.

As the lab doors opened, the three walked in.

Right away, they saw the lab's most eye-catching equipment: a giant culture tank. And beside it, operating the instruments, was Wesker.

At the same time, Aiden noticed Barry was deliberately slowing his steps—he knew the man was looking for the best position.

He didn't pay much attention to it, though, because once he entered the lab, his attention had already been captured by that giant culture tank.

Or rather, the massive, nearly 3-meter-tall B.O.W inside the tank.

Experimental Tyrant, T-002.

Although it wasn't perfect yet, it was already enough to be called a relatively qualified biological weapon.

'What a masterpiece.' Aiden couldn't help but sigh in his heart. Unlike in the game, seeing the world's most advanced biological weapon with his own eyes—the shock was almost indescribable.

But thinking about having to face it in a moment, Aiden felt another headache.

This thing was no ordinary enemy.

As he was thinking about how to deal with it, Wesker stopped his actions and said mockingly, "Oh my, isn't this the goddess of our police department, Miss Jill? You finally made it here. I've been waiting a long time."

Jill ignored his tone and coldly looked at him. Just as she was about to question him, something unexpected happened—a gun was pressed against the back of her head.

"Stop, Jill. I don't want to hurt you. And you too, mysterious Easterner—put the gun down, or else…"

Behind them, Barry held a handgun in each hand, aimed at Aiden and Jill.

Of course Aiden wouldn't obey. Even though he knew Barry wouldn't shoot, being held at gunpoint still pissed him off. He pointed his gun at Barry and said, "Or else what? Shoot? Go ahead and try. I guarantee I can pull the trigger too. But the result? Mutual destruction. You'll die—and then never see your family again."

When he heard the word "family," Barry's expression finally cracked. He looked at Wesker, unable to decide.

At that moment, Wesker unexpectedly fired—his bullet hit the ground near Jill's feet, scaring her and making both Aiden and Barry's faces darken.

"This isn't one-on-one, mysterious Easterner. It's two-on-one," Wesker said coldly. "Maybe Barry won't shoot Jill, but he won't go easy on you. And… can you really watch Jill die here? Put the gun down."

Aiden pursed his lips. He was confident he could dodge Barry's bullet and believed Barry wouldn't shoot Jill—but Wesker definitely wouldn't show mercy. Unless he was willing to watch Jill die.

But that was clearly impossible. She was the one they were after.

"Fine, you're right. Two versus one—we're at a disadvantage." Aiden lowered his head slightly, but his face wasn't nervous at all.

Then he dropped his rifle. But at Wesker's signal, Barry still took away his handgun and shotgun, leaving him only that seemingly dull military triangular bayonet… and the M1911 Barry hadn't discovered.

"Barry, why…" Seeing Barry come over to confiscate her guns too, Jill asked in disbelief.

Barry didn't answer. After taking both their guns, he silently stood aside.

Wesker glanced at Barry and said, "I've always been a considerate person. Barry, you can go now. I want to have a few words with Jill—and this unexpected guest—alone."

Barry silently nodded, holding the guns as he walked out of the lab. Just as the door was about to close, he turned back and glanced at Jill.

As the lab door shut, Wesker looked at the shocked and furious Jill, and the helpless Aiden, and for once, smiled.

"I didn't expect a foreigner to show up here. Maybe I need to confirm your identity." Wesker looked over Aiden, "Or maybe… you're also interested in that thing. But I remember the company once tried to promote it to Z Country before and got rejected."

"I don't really understand what he's talking about." Aiden saw Jill giving him a puzzled look after Wesker's words and just shrugged at her.

Wesker's mouth curled up, "It's fine if you don't admit it. The truth doesn't matter anymore."

"No, the truth matters a lot!" Jill suppressed her suspicion toward Aiden and loudly refuted Wesker, "Why are you doing this? Why did you attack Deputy Enrico? You're the commander of S.T.A.R.S! Why become Umbrella's dog?"

"Umbrella's dog?" Wesker shook his head, speaking disdainfully, "You're wrong, Jill. Although it's true I joined S.T.A.R.S under Umbrella's arrangement, that was just a means to escape. In fact, Umbrella can't control me.

And as for why I'm doing this? Hmph… You don't need to know too much, because soon, you'll all be dead."

At that, Wesker raised his handgun with a sneer, finger pressing on the trigger.

Jill closed her eyes in despair. She couldn't do anything now—only wait for Wesker to pull the trigger.

Bang bang bang…

Gunshots rang out, but the one who fell wasn't Jill—it was Wesker.

———

Hearing the gunshots but not feeling pain on her body, Jill opened her eyes. When she saw Wesker on the ground, she turned back in shock—only to see Aiden holding an M1911 handgun, smoke still rising from the barrel.

"I said, for safety, I came well-prepared." Aiden casually explained, then took a few steps forward and emptied the entire magazine into Wesker's body.

He wasn't venting anger—he just wanted to see if he could kill him early. Though he knew it was a long shot, since in the plot, Wesker had already injected himself with the virus.

As expected, even after being shot multiple times, with a hole in his head, Wesker didn't die. He struggled to his feet and pressed the control-release button on the culture tank.

Inside the tank, the liquid quickly drained.

The Tyrant instantly opened its eyes. It raised its giant clawed left arm and easily shattered the tank's reinforced glass, stepping out.

"Kill them," Wesker shouted with all his strength.

But the T-002 model Tyrant was still not perfect. Although it had basic intelligence and understanding, it wasn't controllable—naturally, it couldn't distinguish friend from foe.

So, its first action after hearing the order was to use its clawed left arm to pierce Wesker's body, lift him up for a glance, then casually toss him aside.

Then it started accelerating, charging toward Aiden and Jill.

The nearly three-meter-tall Tyrant was like a tank—nothing could stop it, everything was smashed along the way.

Aiden frowned slightly. He regretted using those bullets earlier—since they hadn't killed Wesker, he might've saved them for the Tyrant.

But regret was useless. The Tyrant was almost on top of them now. He threw away the empty pistol and ran sideways with Jill.

But the Tyrant's size gave it an advantage—one of its steps covered what took them two. In just seconds, it had caught up to them, and now they had nowhere left to run.

Aiden shielded Jill behind him, drew his military knife across his chest, and watched as the Tyrant raised its huge left arm high—he swallowed hard.

'Damn it, let's do this. If Leon can do it, so can I,' he thought.

But just then, the lab door suddenly opened—Barry walked in, carrying Aiden and Jill's guns. Holding that huge Magnum revolver in both hands, he aimed at the Tyrant and pulled the trigger.

Flames burst from the muzzle, and several large-caliber handgun bullets hit the back of the Tyrant's head precisely.
