2 days later, finally it was the day of Mira and Zion's wedding. The wedding neither of them wants to happen but left with no choice. Mira was dressed in a white Tulle gown with off-shoulder gown. The corset bodices were emblished with silver beads. She wore a diamond necklace around her neck. A long white veil adorned her head. She sat on the couch in the waiting room for the wedding to start. Her hands tightly grasping a bouquet of flowers.
Suddenly she saw a familiar face entering inside the room. She recognized him immediately. It was Aiden.
"Mira do you really have to gamble with your life?" Aiden asked her, his face stern. The worry clouded his eyes. He had liked her for a very long time but didn't have the courage to confess that he loves her. Because he didn't want to lose a best friend.
"Yes, to gain inheritance it is worth it," Mira replied a shakey voice, a tear formed in her eyes. The pain in her chest was so unbearable that she was feeling numb all over.
"My mother worked hard for this. I can't, I will never let it fall in the hands of those freeloaders," Mira asserted her eyes stared into his. There was impeccable pain in those hazel eyes and he could feel how much she meant what she said.
Aiden let out a heavy sigh. His hands clenched into fists as his anger rose within him. He felt helpless and powerless because he couldn't help her anymore. He couldn't protect her and now he had to watch her ruin her own life. He hated himself for not being able to protect her.
….
On the other hand, Jane was sitting in the passenger seat of Zion's car.
"Jane, did you think about what I told you yesterday? Zion asked Jane who was sitting in the passanger seat of the car.
"Let's just run away. I don't want this marriage nor I want this inheritance. I can live without it," Zion said taking her hand into his and intertwining their fingers together.
Jane bit her lower lip and thought about it.
"But I can't," Jane replied firmly. "We can't give up on our lifestyle, and most importantly ReiMar enterprises. You worked hard for it. We can't simply let it in the hands of Mira," Jane continued."Let me show you something."
Jane pulled out her phone from the purse and handed it to Zion. Zion took the phone and glanced at the screen. A video of Mira and Aiden conversation played in front of his eyes.
"Mira do you really have to gamble with your life?" Aiden asked her . Mira nodded her head.
"To gain inheritance, it is worth it," she replied and stopped the video.
"From the very start she planned it all. She wants you to back out so that she will have the chance of becoming the President of ReiMar enterprises," Jane continued.
Zion frowned at the information, trying to grasp the idea. It made sense. Every piece of puzzle was slowly fitting together.
"That's why she didn't refuse the marriage proposal," Zion realized.
"Yes," Jane nodded, agreeing with Zion's guess.
.....
"Mira let's go the ceremony has started!" Helia said while entering inside the waiting room. There she spoted Aiden and Mira standing next to him.
"Did I came at the wrong moment?" Helia questioned, her eyes falling on the two. She could feel the tension in the air and noticed they had different expressions than usual, as if they were trying to hold back their emotions.
"Nope, Let's go," Mira responded, giving Helia a tight smile as they followed Helia and entered into the hall where the wedding ceremony was taking place.
As Mira walked down the aisle, she felt pain in her heart once more. She tried her hardest to hold back the tears forming in her eyes. She never thought she would marry someone who is already in love with someone else. She never thought the person she would marry one day would Zion. She never thought about such circumstances. She always hoped for love at least from the person she would marry.
"Remember this pain Mira, the one that you are feeling right now. Because it will make you stronger. As this world revolve around one principle: Survival of the fittest. Where only the strong survive while the weak are eliminated by nature," Mira reminded herself while walking down the aisle towards Zion. He stood on the other side of the aisle watching her walking towards him, his brown eyes devoid of any emotion staring at her. His face remained stoic, his hands tucked into his trouser pocket
Mira reached at the end of aisle. She stood in front of him as she gazed directly into his eyes. She could see that behind his cold expression there was storm brewing inside him, she could feel the pain behind those eyes. She has hurted him so much; even though it was unintentional her actions still caused him pain. But does she have any other options?
"Bride and groom please say your vows," the officiant stated, breaking the silence. Both of them stepped forward and faced each other with a serious expression on their faces.
" Will you take Mira Reid to be your lawful wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, in sickness, and in health, to love and to cherish until you are parted by death?" the officiant asked. Mira looked into Zion's dark brown eyes which held such pain and sorrow. Mira felt her chest constrict.
"I do," Zion replied on the mic, his voice echoed throughout the hall making everyone clap and cheer loudly.
"Will you take Zion Marston to be your lawful husband, to have and to hold from this day forward , for better, for worse, in sickness, and in health, to love and to cherish until you are parted by death?" the officiant asked the bride. Mira glanced at Zion before announcing her answer.
" I do," Mira answered in the mic.
"Then by the power invested by God Almighty I pronounce you as husband and wife," The officiant announced, making everybody clap and cheer again.
"Now, you can exchange the rings," Everyone cheered enthusiastically, clapping in delight. Bridesmaids and bridesmen walked up to Zion and Mira, holding beautiful white ring boxes. Zion extended his hand, retrieved his wedding ring from its velvet cradle and slipped it onto his finger.
"I am done playing this game, Mrs. Martson. Play the rest by yourself," Zion asserted in an icy tone. His face showed no sign of emotion but Mira could feel the burning hatred radiating from his body. With that he turned around to walk away leaving Mira alone with the people surrounding her. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears. The bouquet she was holding tightly onto loosened from her grip and fell on the ground.
She became a laughingstock in the eyes of many. The news spread like wildfire throughout the entire city. Her marriage became a joke among the citizens.
