The constant beeping from the heart machine pulled Isla from the abyss of unconsciousness. Her body felt like a big bag of rock, weighing her down as she felt a sudden aching numbness all over her body. She squinted her eyes as the harsh white lights blinded momentarily followed by the strong sterile scent of hospital antiseptic and medicine filled her lungs.
Memories of what had happened came crashing in like a freight train.
She quickly opened her eyes as her heart pounded harshly against her rib cage. The thought that they had finally caught up with her frightened her. She needed to find her son and try to get away.
