"Hello Kai baby. Can I play with you please?"
Alyssa called out in a very syrupy sweet voice, a wide smile on her face as she squatted beside Kai who sat crossed legged on the grass under a large tree with a huge book open on his lap. He was barely alone as he was always with Ronan and this was her only opportunity of finding him alone.
Kai raised his head from his book to stare at her, confusion written on his face. He raised his small fingers to point at the words on the pages as he spoke.
"See! I'm not playing. I'm reading"
Alyssa let out an awkward chuckle, tucking a strand of her fiery hair behind her ears. She had never been good with talking to children. "Well in that case, I'll read with you then"
Kai shrugged, offering her a small smile before he flipped to another page. He didn't mind if she read with him or not.
