Chapter 46 - Poor Welcome [1]

Cedric landed 100 meters before the gates of the City.

Compared to Vitpacar the city hosted grand walls, with what seemed to be a large amount of gold ornaments creating a sense of opulence.

The sheer size of the city dwarfed Vitpacar by at least 4 times.

Cedric gently put down Aurelia, despite her pouting at the act.

With Cedric's speed, they arrived at Valar in less than 2 hours, perhaps he would have been here even faster if only he didn't have to protect Aurelia from powerful winds.

"I wouldn't mind you carrying me inside, but I need to keep up appearances to..." Aurelia was quite unhappy with the fact however she knew despite her wishes she had a duty.

Slaves and most of the army should have returned already as she had taken a detour to proclaim her victory.

She set herself into the proper posture as expected of the princess, as Cedric and approached the gates they were stopped by a pair of guards.

<> They were worshipping the same god as demons were.

Cedric was disgusted, however, he had to stay his blade for now, perhaps guard was tricked, or perhaps he could be turned.

"Your majesty! Please follow me. You are here sooner than expected." The soldier's expression was hidden under the helmet, but Cedric could notice dissatisfaction in the man's voice.

"May I ask who the gentleman is?" A soldier asked with suspicion in his voice.

"He is a hero who made the triumph of the 4th legion possible," Aurelia spoke with pride.

"I see...King had ordered us to lead you to the castle as soon as you showed up." The man acted suspiciously, his voice did not show happiness at the triumph over the demons.

"Mhm, let us go then..." Aurelia spoke not with immense authority he would expect of a leader but as a scared little girl.

Cedric did not trust anyone in this city, way too many people had Evil listed as patron, so many were under complete and shameless control of demons.

His desire to level the city was overwhelming, if it wasn't for The First Star many would have been cut down.

If an infidel was so far gone to worship 'Evil' as patron then it meant they were well and truly gone.

Despite Cedric's wish to lead them back to one true faith, they were willing consorts of demons.

They were no better, and so they too deserved to be cast back to hell.

Aurelia kept herself close to Cedric, clearly scared the moment she stepped into the city, perhaps she was discriminated against because she was not firm in her pagan beliefs.

'That would make sense... Infidels would shun and mock her if she did not truly believe in their unholy beliefs.' Cedric shook his head.

However, Aurelia was a follower of God now, and so she was to not be touched or mocked, mockery of God's faithful would be punished by the tongue of a fool being sliced off, be it a human or demon, be it nobility or a mere street thug.

An attack on her would buy a ticket to the judgment of God.

The First Star must be made into a symbol of Faith in this pagan world, and no demon or pagan could stop the changing tide.

While he wished to take that role, making a native a symbol would have a greater effect.

While the city was as pristine as he would expect of a capital it did not make it any less of a nest of corruption.

Cedric and Aurelia followed the soldier towards the castle, the walk took quite an amount of time however it seemed to pass quickly as they were led into a marble building.

It truly was a majestic palace, the masonry could compare to the finest Palaces of France, and the gold ornamentation gave it a sense of opulence and prestige.

Palace gates opened before them.

Long hallway leading up towards the throne room, and multiple doors leading to other parts of the palace.

A line of guards in gold-plated armor lined both sides of the hallway, vigilantly guarding the path toward the throne room, each of them held a long pike.

As they stepped into the hall they were stopped by a single guard. "Princess Aurelia. King is waiting for you."

The man spoke condescendingly and in an unfriendly tone as if everyone here hated the princess.

Castle guards were supposed to be ones to respect and protect and yet one of King's children was looked at so unfavourably.

Not only unfavorably, even the guards that lined the halls seemed not to give Aurelia any attention.

"Lady Aurelia, please come with us. Gentleman must stay here." One of the guards spoke to the pair.

Before Cedric could even turn Aurelia interjected, "He is my guard, he is coming with me!"

Aurelia spoke with authority, her voice making the guards tense up.

With a sigh, the guard beckoned both of them over, "King is waiting, follow me."

Aurelia and Cedric made their way, [God's Eye] scanning everyone in the room.

Cedric would make sure to remember their faces, as some worshipped evil.

'So many demon worshippers, this cannot stand...' Cedric was furious, his hand itched to grip his blade and purify this palace. However, that would be ill-advised.

This Kingdom would be the first Christian country in this world, that Cedric was sure of.

If that is to become true, Aurelia would need to ascend to the throne. Cedric would make her a queen, however cleansing was needed.

Like cutting a cancer out, letting healthy tissue take its place.

The duo stepped into the throne room, it was a circular room, with a massive throne taking centerpiece of the wall in front of them, on it sat a man with gray hair, brown eyes, and a sunken face.

He wore a golden crown adorned with rubies and sapphires.

"Kneel before the king," The guard ordered to which Aurelia obliged as she fell to her knees.
