Chapter 56 - Twin Bosses

Two figures stood in a lavish room. It was situated above the running water of sewers, and it was decorated in the finest furniture money could buy.

One male and one female, so similar in appearance that they couldn't be mistaken for anything but twins or at least siblings.

Both had pristine black wings. The male had medium messy black hair and brown eyes, and his body and face were scarred from combat, with one broken horn.

The female had long black hair, pristine white horns, and smooth pearly skin, a woman who seemed not to have seen combat in her entire life.

"What are we gonna do, sister! Whatever is approaching us feels unbeatable!" Saren spoke with panic.

His dark wings flapped anxiously.

Despite being weaker than his sister, he was still the founder, and as such, he had to face whatever danger was approaching.

Syren, however, merely stared, her bloodshot brown eyes almost popping out.

"... That..." She gulped.

"Speak to me, sister! What is that?!" He had never seen his sister so terrified.

"..." Syren kept staring at the presence, a presence that, even at such a distance, threatened to crush them under its weight.

"It's a god..." Syren gulped as she said those words, her face showing emotion of pure primal fear.

"Sister, are you sure?" Saren trusted her with all his life, especially due to her [Appraisal], which gave her the ability to collect information easily.

Despite him having a hard time believing her right now, it did not mean she was lying.

"[Appraise] failed... This had never happened before, brother." Her voice was shaky and unnerving.

Attempting to appraise the presence was met with a sharp pain in her head; she saw nothing except the face of death.

"Saren, we need to run. We cannot fight it!" Syren said that, however, she did not have delusions of being able to escape. They were assassins; their expertise allowed them to slip by many foes unnoticed, and yet she felt no way out.

It took all her power merely to stand tall.

She knew her brother was proud, he would attempt to fight no matter what Alas, she had to do sisterly duty and warn him.

"No... I will not lose Fate's End without a fight!" Saren spoke with conviction; he barely held himself together, but the suffocating presence made his wings crumble.

He did not know how he was still alive. Breathing was painful, and with each step closer he got closer, it became harder and harder to breathe.

Using the strength he had left, he reached for a dagger, his favored weapon. If he was to die, at least he would make a strike against the enemy.

"Sister, you must escape. I will do everything in my power. I beg you use [Invisibility] and run! You must warn Gaya, she will know what to do!" Saren shouted at her; he did not want her to die here.

However, before she could answer, the door shattered. A massive Paladin clad in full plate white armor walked through the cloud of dust, in his hand a greatsword that no man should be able to carry with such grace.

"Gaya... She had already been sent to hell." Cedric was not deaf to their conversation.

He wanted them to feel fear, he wanted them to feel how their victim felt.

"You... Asshole! DO NOT LIE!" Saren lunged with all his might. He wouldn't accept that Immortal Gaya would be felled, and yet he collapsed under the weight of [Divine Zeal].

"Truth is often surprising..." The cold voice of Cedric reached his ears.

"Run...sister." He wished to fight, but it was fruitless; he was an assassin. An assassin who knew when to choose battles he could win.

Syren, with tears in her eyes, used [Invisiblity]. Making herself disappear from the world for mere moments, however, nothing could hide from [God's Eye].

She was too weak. Foolishly, she got too close to Cedric, and before escaping, she collapsed, living only because of her resistance to Holy.

"Impure will never stand in the face of that which is Holy!"

The armored man approached his sister, and with a tight grip, he lifted her by her horns.

"No..." Saren spoke weakly, he needed to protect her; they were supposed to be champions that would bring the chaos to this human kingdom and finally end the last obstacle that stood before Iguva.

With an effortless motion, the paladin launched Syren at him, making them crash into the wall.

"How does it feel? You are an enemy of God. How does it feel to be powerless before the light of one true God?" He spoke casually and with zeal.

[Divine Zeal] was dispelled as the Paladin approached them. Despite the heavy aura disappearing, he was still gripped by fear.

Saren didn't know what god this man spoke about, and it did not matter to him.

'Gaya... save me...' In his mind, he prayed for the great champion to save him, and yet he knew no help would come.

"Oh, Someone is scared. Ain't that precious for a fallen angel." Cedric mocked the fallen angel before a punch sent both of them flying through the wall and outside the lavish office.

Some would call Cedric cruel; however, how could one be cruel to ones who betrayed God? After all, that alone is the biggest Cruelty one could commit.

The elaborate wooden designs were ruined as two siblings crashed through them.

"You see, the moment you attacked the First Star. Your destiny was sealed, however. I did not think traitors of God themselves were involved." He spoke with scorn and rage.

If they were humans, perhaps Cedric would end their misery, however, Fallen Angels were unforgivable. They had betrayed God twice, once by Lucifer's treachery and the second time by attacking Aurelia, the first star of the new world.

They were truly demons, their angelic appearance the only thing linking them to their holy heritage.

He looked at the pair of Fallen, the female already unconscious from being too close to the source of [Divine Zeal].

The man, instead of fighting, kowtowed before Cedric, his voice trembling. "Please spare my sister! I am the founder of Fate's End, she is only my aide!"

"How many bosses do you have..." Cedric took an opportunity to ask for a crucial piece of information.

"4 in total... First Prince, Two of us and one we only know as 'Shade', he hadn't been in Valar for some time..." His voice trembled as he gave away important information.

"Once a traitor, always a traitor. But I must thank you for giving me such important information," Cedric crossed his arms.

Saren looked with a glint of hope in his eyes, "Will you please let her go! I will do anything. Fate's End could be yours to command! With my abilities, I can easily disguise myself as human and conduct any mission!"

Fallen tried to bargain, he tried to bargain with his trechours organization and heretical abilities.

"No, you end now." Before Saren could process his words, both he and Syren were killed, reduced to nothing but motes of light and ash.

Fate's End had no use for God's Mission, they were merely an obstacle that had to be purged from Valar.
