"Ian, where are the guests you invited?" Phillip asked in an attempt to ease the tension in the room, although, he did make sure to sound upset so Ian would know that he still did not agree with this.
"Oh, father, they are our guests." Ian replied purposefully trying to enrage his father.
"No, they are your guests, and they are late, that speaks highly of their character." he replied angrily.
"Maybe something delayed them, regardless, I am certain they will be here soon, and when they do arrive, I wish you would put away that scowl." Ian said as Phillip's scowl deepened.
"I will scowl as much as I want, you imposed this on me suddenly and I prefer if you listened to me."
"Father, honestly, I just wish to have a calm dinner tonight." Ian said taking a sip of his wine. He had a feeling that tonight's dinner would be far from calm.
...
"We are already late for dinner, his majesty must be upset." Dariel said as he helped Ohara and Angelica down from the carriage.
