Maria, meanwhile, was all smiles—though Liam knew better. The way her eyes gleamed with mischief told him that she was enjoying this moment far more than she let on.

"Liam," Maria said, faking the warmest smile she could muster.

"I know how busy you must be with all the wedding preparations and everything, but I just couldn't trust anyone else with this." She let out a soft, almost theatrical sigh.

"I mean, you know cars better than anyone else. I had to drag you out here, didn't I?"

At that moment Liam narrowed his eyes at her, unimpressed. He wasn't buying the act. "You didn't have to drag me anywhere, Mrs Maria," he replied, his tone flat.

"You begged."

Maria gasped, feigning offense, and pressed a hand dramatically against her chest.

"Oh, come on, don't make me sound desperate. I just wanted the best opinion. You're practically family now."

At the mention of "family," Chloe shifted slightly, her expression unreadable.
