"Lily, would you mind giving me some apples, please?" Mily requested shortly after Letty left.
I was tired but had no option so I got up, went to the kitchen and picked a few. I washed them very well, took a knife and sliced the apple, humming a tune while slicing it.
I set the knife on the counter after slicing the last apple, washed my hands and pushed the plate over to Mily. "There. Your apples are now sliced to perfection."
She took a bite, chewing with care before glancing up at me. "You know, I really appreciate you being here right?"
I gazed over at her, taken aback. "Mily, you don't have to thank me always. It's really no big deal, you're my twin."
"But it is," she went on. "After all that I did, all that I said. I don't deserve this. I don't deserve that you still care."
I hesitated, looking at the uncertainty that now filled her eyes. This new Mily, the Mily who apologized, who looked at me with the fear of losing me, was alien to me.
