The silence wasn't empty tonight. It was gentle. Like a quiet friend who didn't need to speak to be understood.
I left the envelope on the table, stood up, and walked to bed without looking back.
I didn't need to. I'd made up my mind.
Turning off my bedside lamp I tried to sleep but sleep eluded me. So I carried my phone without thinking twice, searched for Letty's number and sent her another text.
"Hey, best friend.
I signed the documents today.I was really hoping you would reach out to me but it seems you are still really mad at me but I really believe this is what I need and I know you want what's best for me. Can you trust me?
I want you to understand that you don't have to reply right now but please come around soon. I miss you.

Morning light piled in through the windows. I folded the signed document, placed it in a manila envelope, and stuck it safely inside my tote bag.
I would go over to Daniel's later and tell him my resolve.
