I breathed heavily, trying again. Slowly. Inch by inch. My lashes fluttered, the light still burning, but I pushed through. After what felt like an eternity, I finally managed to open my eyes.

Footsteps pounded against the floor as someone rushed out. My body felt like lead. Weak. Too weak to even lift a finger.
