"It's about your wife."
Karlos looked up from his desk, his sharp gaze locking onto his assistant
"What about her?" he asked in concern.
"I'm afraid, uh... she got into an accident." He had rushed back as soon as he heard the news.
Tasha's eyes opened wide.
Karlos furrowed his eyebrows like he was suffering a headache. His fingers curled slightly in his pocket.
"How did this happen?" He asked. His demeanor had changed.
Jake adjusted his glasses. "Not sure how, Sir. But the incident took place on the road leading to Star City Mall." He said as his tone remained businesslike.
Tasha, who had been desperately trying to steal her best friend's husband just moments ago, forced herself to look distraught and sad.
"This can't be happening! How… how could this happen? Berlin..." she gasped, pressing a trembling hand against her chest. "Oh my gosh!" She had a sullen look on her face.
She needed to be convincing. If Karlos even suspected that she didn't care, her chances with him would be ruined. Truthfully, she wished his wife was dead and gone for all she cares. And all her plans will be solved with less stress.
Jake looked at Tasha sharply with eyes like an eagle. His heart was almost in his throat.
Jake was ashamed of this secretary. He had come to know and understand so far that, Tasha was his boss's childhood lover, and the other his newly wedded wife. And they were practically best friends. Who did his boss love? Well, that was none of his business in any way.
He looked at Tasha in surprise before turning back to his boss, who looked quite unreadable.
Karlos was listening but his expression was strange.
"Where was Raymond and the guards when this happened?" He asked in complete confusion on his stern face.
Jake hesitated. "Sir, it was reported that she was alone."
Karlos stiffened. "Alone?"
Jake nodded. "Yes, Sir. I was told she dismissed her security detail just before leaving the house."
Karlos inhaled sharply, his jaw clenching. "Why the hell would she do something like that?"
"Has the news gotten to my Mom, yet?" Karlos asked, imagining how devastated his Mother would be right now and how the hell, Berlin had no protection out there.
Yes, Sir. She's already on her way to the hospital." Jake had no idea who the wife of his boss was. But he hoped nothing bad happened to her. 'unlike someone.' Jake thought as he glanced at Tasha.
"Which hospital is she in?" He asked as he looked at his watch. 'If he left now, he will probably get there on time.'
"Dove Hospital," Jake answered. "I sent the location to your phone."
"Have them move her to a private room." He commanded.
"Ok, Sir, I will do that right away and relay this information and have her taken good care of." His assistant replied.
"Have the perpetrators been caught?" Karlos asked curiously.
"Yes, the culprit is in custody at the moment, Sir"
"Good!" Karlos muttered, running his fingers through his hair.
"What the hell was she thinking? Karlos was more surprised than anyone and he immediately retrieved his phone.
"Yes, Do not bail him out until I have said so. If he so much thinks he can get away with this, I will sue you all. Also, get the CCTV camera's over to my assistant ASAP."
"Got it Sir," the head of the police force replied him and the phone went dead.
"I want to come with you..." Tasha stated as she looked at Karlos with worry in her eyes, stepping forward.
Karlos barely spared her a glance. "No. Stay here with Jake. There's work to do. You can visit later in the evening." Karlos replied to her. As he prepared to leave.
Tasha clenched her jaw but forced a small nod.
After relaying instructions to his assistant, he left the office building, got into his tinted black car, and drove off.
Tasha stood still, staring at the door long after he had left. Her hands balled into fists.
She looked pissed off that he didn't hesitate, or consider her feelings of wanting to be close to him. She decided to be calm, because she understood him, and she knew she would have an opportunity to win him over again.
She was a Bane, One of the richest family in the country, and the only woman that managed to be in a relationship with him. The only woman he has affections for. And there was was no one that could compete with that.
Everyone had a bottom line, and while Karlos seemed uptight, he sure had a limit.
"We should head out." He said glancing at Tasha.
While she was busy with her thoughts, she failed to notice Jake had said something to her.
"Miss Tasha," his calm voice broke her from her train of thought.
Tasha blinked several times as she got back to reality.
"Why are you staring at me?" Tasha asked as she trailed her gaze over to Jake, rolling her eyes at him.
"I think we should get started," he said, ignoring her cheeky attitude.
Tasha scoffed. She had always found Jake irritating. He was too observant, too judgmental.
All these while, Jake still had both his hands wrapped around a file he was holding.
'clingy Woman' Jake thought.
He had never liked Tasha. Let alone working with her. Watching her fake distress, he disliked her even more. And
sometimes wondered what his boss saw in the lady. She was beautiful alright but compared to some other ladies, she had a nasty character.
Her character was ugly, if he had to describe her in a simple sentence.
Still, work was work. He turned on his heel, heading out of the meeting room.
Tasha followed
As they both made their way out of the meeting room, to continue their day's work, Tasha stopped in her tracks as it dawned on her.
It nearly escaped her mind.
She just found a way to end her best friend's life.
She smiled.
