Unohana Retsu watched as Aaron's departing figure faded into the distance, a fleeting sense of loss surfacing in her heart.
At that moment, Chōjirō Sasakibe approached her, his face tense with urgency.
"Captain Unohana, the Captain-Commander's condition is extremely dire. I don't know if…"
Before he could finish, the Kuro-mon vanished, and Unohana followed Chōjirō, quickly making her way to Yamamoto's side.
When she arrived, she found the aged Captain-Commander lying gravely wounded on the ground, his body barely clinging to life. Her brows knitted together at the sight.
It was evident at a glance—Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto's injuries were severe, and he was on the brink of death.
Yet, in that instant, Aaron's image involuntarily surfaced in Unohana's mind. She shook her head slightly, refocusing her thoughts before channeling her energy into healing Yamamoto's wounds.
A group of Shinigami from the Third Division and other squads quickly gathered around her, forming a protective circle, wary of any unexpected disturbances.
A faint green light enveloped Yamamoto's body as Unohana's Kaidō began painstakingly repairing his extensive injuries. As time passed, the scorched remnants of his skin slowly started regenerating.
However, a grievous wound running from his neck down to his abdomen, though scabbed over, refused to fully heal.
At that moment, Ōetsu Nimaiya arrived at the scene through the Tenchūren.
Most of the onlookers, unfamiliar with advanced Kaidō techniques, could only watch in anxious silence.
Sitting cross-legged nearby, Jūshirō Ukitake wore a look of concern. Having long suffered from illness, he had acquired some knowledge of healing arts. Upon seeing the deep laceration on Yamamoto, a troubling suspicion crept into his mind.
Ōetsu Nimaiya observed Yamamoto's deteriorating state and let out a heavy sigh. His eyes sharpened as he examined the stubborn wound, quickly realizing something was amiss.
Moving beside Unohana, he scrutinized the injury with a grave expression. After a few moments, a flash of shock crossed his face.
"Unohana, this wound can only be stabilized temporarily," he said solemnly. "But to achieve a complete recovery… I fear only Tenjiro Kirinji at the Kirinden can properly treat him."
The gathered captains, especially Kyōraku Shunsui and the others, had not expected the situation to be this severe.
Among them, the most shaken was Chōjirō Sasakibe. His hands trembled as he struggled to maintain composure.
"Captain Unohana," he stammered, his voice heavy with emotion, "why… why is this happening? Shouldn't your Kaidō be able to heal the Captain-Commander?"
Ōetsu Nimaiya sighed, reading the distress on their faces. "There's a foreign force within the wound—something malevolent is consuming and counteracting the healing Kido. Right now, Unohana can only suppress it, preventing the energy from erupting further."
He glanced at Yamamoto's grievous wound once more before continuing, "If we want to fully heal him and prevent lasting damage, we must transport him to the Royal Realm—Kirin Palace specifically."
As Unohana wiped a sheen of sweat from her forehead, she turned to reassure the others. "For now, his condition is under control."
Chōjirō Sasakibe, his face resolute, stepped forward and bowed deeply to Ōetsu. "Master Sword God, I leave the Captain-Commander in your hands."
Ōetsu Nimaiya, seeing the grave expressions of those around him, gave a reassuring smile. "No need to worry. Carry Yamamoto and follow me."
With that, the assembled Shinigami prepared to escort the Captain-Commander away from the Sōkyoku Hill.
Meanwhile, Rukia Kuchiki knelt beside Byakuya Kuchiki, who was receiving treatment. Guilt weighed heavily on her as she gazed at her injured brother.
"Big Brother, are you alright?" she asked softly, her voice laced with worry.
Byakuya, his eyes closed, gave a subtle nod. Even in his weakened state, his mind drifted back to Hisana's final words to him before her passing.
As the Shinigami on the hill continued their duties, a sudden, inexplicable fluctuation in space sent ripples through the air above them.
A black gate materialized in the sky, and from within its depths, Aaron emerged, stepping forth once more.
"Be on guard!"
"Protect the Captain-Commander!"
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"
"My god… why is he back again?!"
The Shinigami's voices rang with alarm as they scrambled into battle formation. The fact that Aaron, who had just left, had returned so suddenly filled them with confusion and dread.
Chōjirō Sasakibe was the first to react, drawing his Zanpakutō and stepping forward, his eyes burning with hostility.
Kyōraku Shunsui and the other captains turned their gazes toward the intruder, their weapons drawn in wary anticipation.
Ignoring their reactions, Aaron walked forward, his eyes locked onto Yamamoto's unconscious form.
"If you take another step," someone warned, "we won't hold back!"
"We'll protect the Captain-Commander no matter the cost!"
"Prepare for battle!"
Ōetsu Nimaiya, still processing the sudden appearance of Aaron, remained silent, his mind racing.
Meanwhile, a fleeting expression flickered in Unohana's eyes before she quickly composed herself, her gaze steady as she regarded Aaron's figure.
A sudden, ragged cough broke the tense silence.
From the stretcher, Yamamoto Shigekuni struggled to sit up, his withered body trembling with the effort. Despite his weakness, his piercing gaze settled on Aaron.
"The Captain-Commander is awake!"
"Captain! Are you alright?"
"Master Yamamoto, you scared us!"
A mixture of relief and joy swept through the ranks as they watched their leader regain consciousness.
Aaron remained unmoved, his voice calm as he asked, "Where is Kuchiki ?"
The Shinigami, bracing for battle, hesitated upon hearing his question. Though the tension slightly eased, their wariness did not waver.
Yamamoto, however, offered no immediate response, choosing instead to study Aaron in silence, his expression unreadable.
Suddenly, a surge of powerful Reiatsu erupted from Aaron's body, tearing through the air as it surged toward Yamamoto.
In the distance, a chilling voice echoed through the battlefield…
