"What!?" Evelyn gasped, her goblet slipping from her hand and shattering against the marble floor. "You're marrying Lord Azrael? Why… What do you mean!?"
Marianne raised a single brow, unfazed, as she poured a dark crimson liquid into her silver goblet. The wine shimmered with an unnatural glow, like it had been drawn from the veins of a sleeping god. She brought it to her lips and sipped slowly, a shadow curling around the edges of her smile. "What? Aren't you happy for me?" she asked, voice smooth and sweet, hiding barbs underneath. "I used to think we were one soul in two bodies. Sisters in all but blood. But you changed."
Evelyn stepped back, heart pounding. The torches flickered wildly, as though the castle itself reacted to her fear. "What are you saying—?"
