Chapter 40:
She felt a soft touch against her arm, and then a familiar deep voice broke through her dreams.
"Ines, wake up," Raphael said in a voice full of gentleness he rarely showed.
She groaned, turning her face into the pillow. "Five more minutes."
Raphael huffed a breath, clearly rolling his eyes.
"Your cast is a mess. It's falling apart. You got it wet, didn't you?"
That woke her up. Ines blinked up at him, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "It's fine—"
"It's not fine," he interrupted, his eyes narrowed.
"You need to get it changed before it completely breaks."
Ines sat up, examining her arm.
The once-pristine white cast was now slightly cracked, the edges fraying.
She winced. "Okay, maybe it's a little bad."
"A little?" Raphael scoffed. "Get dressed. I'm taking you to the hospital."
She sighed but didn't argue.
Knowing Raphael, he wouldn't let this go until she got a fresh cast.
