Chapter 43: The Escape
The night was far from over.
Ines and Raphael had barely stepped into their car when Raphael's phone vibrated. He glanced at the screen, his smirk vanished immediately.
"What is it?" Ines asked, watching the shift in his expression.
"It's Luca," Raphael muttered before answering. "Talk to me."
Luca's voice came through tense and urgent. "You need to get out of there. Now."
Ines frowned. "What do you mean?"
"Someone tipped off the authorities. They're saying you hacked into private financial records. Diego is trying to flip this on you."
Ines sucked in a sharp breath. "That bastard."
Raphael's jaw clenched. "We expected a counterattack, but this is fast."
Luca's voice turned grave. "You don't understand. The police are already en route to your location. If they find you, they'll drag you in for questioning, and Diego will spin it however he wants."
Ines exchanged a look with Raphael. She wasn't scared, but she wasn't stupid either.
