Chapter 49: Kakashi—How Is That Possible?!
"Damn it!"
In a dense forest outside Konoha, Obito's figure suddenly appeared.
The moment he materialized, he punched a nearby tree with all his strength!
Leaves scattered in the air, mirroring the chaos inside his mind.
He had just been completely outplayed by some brat.
That kid was a damn lunatic—acting so recklessly yet completely logically.
And that logic… did not align with what a Konoha shinobi should be like.
For Obito, that was the real problem.
"Calm down. This is normal for someone from Root."
As Obito's anger flared, a pitcher-plant figure emerged from the ground.
Black Zetsu shook his head.
He had known all along that Obito's plan was bound to fail.
But there was no changing Obito's mind.
And at this point, there was no point in saying 'I told you so.'
"From what I know, Shimura Danzo harbors deep hatred toward the Uchiha.
So it's not surprising that someone trained by him turned out like this."
"Shimura Danzo..."
Obito had heard the name before.
He knew Danzo was one of the Hokage's advisors.
But beyond that, he had never paid much attention to him.
"He was the student of the Second Hokage—who was always wary of the Uchiha."
Black Zetsu, seeing Obito's thoughts, answered before he even asked.
"Danzo fully inherited his master's ideology. And then took it even further."
"A rat-like bastard."
Obito snorted coldly, his expression dark and brooding.
At this point, he wasn't just furious at Haruta.
He had also added Danzo to his kill list.
It was because of that old lunatic that another lunatic like Haruta even existed.
And because of that, his plan had completely fallen apart.
And worst of all—
He had gotten schooled by Flying Thunder God. Again.
Obito would never forget this.
"Whatever. There will be another opportunity."
Shaking his head, he pushed his frustration aside.
But there was still one thing that unsettled him.
"But that kid actually figured out my identity… That's a problem."
"They have no evidence. But yes, you should be more cautious."
Black Zetsu nodded.
That brat's ability to process and react so quickly was honestly frightening.
"More importantly, you need to deal with that Flying Thunder God mark on you."
"Agreed."
Obito nodded grimly.
He had never cared about it before.
After all, Minato was dead.
But now—
He realized he had underestimated Flying Thunder God.
The seal could be passed on.
And now that it had been used against him… he needed to find a way to remove it.
If not, every encounter with Haruta would start with him at a disadvantage.
That was unacceptable.
And the more he thought about it—
The angrier he became.
Haruta was one of Danzo's people.
Which meant Flying Thunder God had to be Danzo's doing.
Combining that with everything that had just happened…
Danzo had officially become Obito's number one target.
"You're dead, Shimura Danzo."
---
Meanwhile—
In the Hokage's office, Danzo suddenly felt uneasy.
He frowned and scanned the room.
But then, he noticed the Uchiha gathered inside.
Immediately, he dismissed the feeling as natural.
It was already nighttime, yet the Hokage's office was still brightly lit.
With such a major incident occurring, it had to be dealt with immediately.
"Hmph. Uchiha… Why isn't that brat dead?"
Danzo snorted internally.
Nearby, Hiruzen rubbed his temples.
An attack inside Konoha.
And the target was Uchiha Itachi?
If this wasn't handled properly, the Uchiha would go berserk.
For a brief moment, when Hiruzen saw Haruta and Itachi together, he almost suspected Haruta.
But he stayed calm.
Once everyone involved had arrived, he deliberately kept Kakashi and the first responders in the room.
Then, he sighed.
"Alright. Everyone's here. Let's get to the bottom of this."
He glanced at Haruta before settling his gaze on Itachi.
"Itachi, you were the victim. Explain what happened."
"Yes, Lord Hokage."
Despite his injuries, Itachi had received basic treatment and could speak clearly.
Keeping his head lowered in respect, he began.
"Tonight, I left early for my mission. But I was ambushed along the way.
The attacker used a space-time technique.
I never saw them.
I only saw a kunai before losing consciousness.
For a moment… I suspected Haruta-senpai."
At those words, many people in the room frowned.
The Uchiha began murmuring among themselves.
Only Fugaku remained silent, his brows deeply furrowed.
Hiruzen glanced at Danzo.
He had also suspected Danzo's involvement at first.
But after thinking it through—
Haruta was too smart.
If he had really done it, he wouldn't have left any traces.
Especially since he had Flying Thunder God.
But now, a bigger problem had emerged—
Was there someone else who could use Flying Thunder God?
"However—
The truth is, Haruta-senpai wasn't the one who attacked me."
Hiruzen's stomach sank.
He really didn't want to hear this.
And yet—
Itachi kept talking.
"While I was unconscious, Haruta-senpai woke me up.
Then, he fought the attacker."
"During the battle, I observed the enemy.
They used space-time ninjutsu.
And based on Haruta-senpai's assessment…
That person might be… an Uchiha."
"WHAT?!"
"Impossible!"
The entire room erupted in shock.
The Uchiha turned pale.
Even Fugaku's eyes widened as he looked at Itachi—then at Haruta.
Space-time jutsu…
An Uchiha…
Could it be…?
Danzo stood up abruptly, his cold gaze sweeping across the Uchiha.
A terrifyingly chilling aura filled the room.
Meanwhile, others whispered among themselves.
Nara Shikaku tugged at Yamanaka Inoichi and Akimichi Chōza.
All three of them remained silent.
This was not a situation they wanted to be involved in.
"Enough."
Hiruzen's expression had turned grim.
He stared at Itachi.
"Are you certain?"
"Yes, Lord Hokage."
Itachi knew exactly what his words meant.
But he did not waver.
"Very well."
Hiruzen then turned to Haruta.
After a brief pause, he asked in a low voice.
"Haruta. What do you think?"
Haruta, who had been quietly listening, finally spoke.
"Lord Hokage, Itachi is correct."
He nodded decisively.
"And I have a suspicion about the attacker's identity."
"Hmm?"
Hiruzen frowned.
Did he mean…?
Was he going to say Shisui?
After a moment, he decided to let Haruta continue.
"Tell us your thoughts."
Haruta's expression turned serious.
"I suspect…"
Then, he spoke.
"That person might be… Uchiha Obito."
The room fell silent.
Itachi showed no reaction—he had already heard this earlier.
But—
Kakashi's eyes widened in disbelief.
Then—
He took a step forward.
His voice shook.
"How… is that possible?!"
