Chapter 74 - A Second Wave of Machines

(A/N: BR has evolved into a full-fledged Legend! Bonus chapter incoming!)

───「 GODZILLA POV 」───

As Godzilla advanced inland across Australia, preparing to move along the Great Dividing Range and bypass the surrounding forests, a faint vibration rippled through the distant horizon.

Godzilla saw them again.

Robots surrounded it from all directions, their numbers even greater than before—millions of them converging on the titan from every angle. They swooped down from ten thousand meters above and surged forward from the western forest and northeastern mountains of the Great Dividing Range.

Like a marching army of ants, these robots launched a simultaneous assault from multiple vectors. Millions upon millions of them.

What were they trying to accomplish?

Godzilla couldn't comprehend the intentions of these mechanical beings. Were they prepared to consume its atomic breath? Didn't humans understand they were already useless against its power?

It couldn't fathom why these swarms of tiny robots continued charging to their deaths in wave after relentless wave, but that didn't stop Godzilla from obliterating them all.

Dorsal fin lasers and tail beams swept through the forest and sky. Its powerful atomic breath devastated the eastern mountains. While destroying these robots, Godzilla continued its advance along the Great Dividing Range.

This robotic army posed no real threat; Godzilla demolished them as it moved forward. While countering the robots, Godzilla also dodged projectiles from distant railguns—the only things that caused it any real trouble.

───「 Human POV 」───

After the soldiers stationed at the railgun emplacements evacuated, Godzilla could no longer locate them through human radar signatures.

Previously, it had used human radar systems to find personnel and thus pinpoint railgun locations, allowing it to strike targets as soon as they entered its range.

But now, after breaking through the southeastern mountains, Godzilla discovered that humans had abandoned the ineffective railguns, leaving only basic artificial intelligence systems to operate them.

And railguns controlled solely by AI proved more troublesome than those with human operators. When not firing, their positions remained unknown to Godzilla, which lacked satellite positioning capabilities.

The massive robot army distracted Godzilla's attention while the AI-guided railguns sniped at the creature from hidden positions. Under the comprehensive coordination of artificial intelligence, this operation far exceeded anything humans could have planned.

But it was still futile.

───「 GODZILLA POV 」───

How much stronger was AI command compared to human command?

1.5 times? 2 times? More.

2.5 times? 3 times? Perhaps.

3.5 times? 4 times? That would be significant.

No matter how generously one calculated, AI command versus human command still failed to show an order of magnitude difference in effectiveness.

Even using the most extreme algorithms, the trouble caused by AI command was only four or five times greater than what Godzilla had faced in the Far East.

And now, how much stronger had Godzilla become since then?

Size, weight, body strength, atomic breath...

Twenty or thirty times stronger would be a conservative estimate.

So there was no problem at all!

As railguns targeted Godzilla and robots surrounded it from all directions, Godzilla's response was unexpected—its massive legs gathered strength, and for the first time since completing its evolution, Godzilla jumped!

Its colossal 14-million-ton body, propelled by Godzilla's ultimate strength, soared into the sky, reaching a height of two to three kilometers.

Godzilla hung in the air, its 400-meter-tall form descending at a pace that could only be described as "slow." Wasn't gravity's acceleration supposed to be constant?

Having jumped skyward, Godzilla easily spotted the railgun positions on the horizon. With one hand, it grabbed a nearby mountain, using it to cushion its landing.

Next came targeting time.

Using its tail and dorsal fins to clear away the robots attempting to close in, Godzilla focused on destroying humanity's mechanical creations.

The railguns were crushed one by one. If humanity's plan relied solely on railguns, it would prove a massive disappointment for Godzilla.

───「 Human POV 」───

After obliterating the last railgun in the mountains ahead and destroying all robots in this wave of attacks, Godzilla needed only to advance along the edge of the Australian basin to reach the first super-metropolitan area established by humanity in Australia's interior.

Unfortunately, the humans in that super-metropolitan area had already evacuated.

But it didn't matter. As long as each metropolitan area fell, humans would eventually be annihilated.

Godzilla was certain of this.

───「 GODZILLA POV 」───

Advancing along the basin's edge, Godzilla observed many things during its journey.

It noticed that the plant distribution in Australia was more diverse than in the Far East. There were more varieties of trees here, and beyond the basic greenery, various small bushes dotted the landscape.

The vitality here was richer than in the Far East.

Seeing this pleased Godzilla, even though it had little to do with the creature itself. Still, it felt happiness. As long as it could witness more life on this land, its mood remained positive.

Godzilla strolled across the Australian plains, not moving quickly but taking time to appreciate nature. Though there were no animals and the landscape felt desolate, numerous life forms continued to strive for survival.

Reflecting on this, Godzilla thought about the two waves of robots that had attacked it earlier.

Honestly, those robots didn't feel like mere machines—they felt more like some kind of life form.

In its natural memories, Godzilla had seen robots created by humans. Most were extremely rigid, devoid of any vitality.

However, this group of attackers was different. They possessed a certain vitality. Rather than purely machines, they seemed more like—

Mechanical life.

Godzilla's breath carried a strong electromagnetic pulse that would normally burn even the most advanced human weapons. But not these machines. They were unlike ordinary robots—they were more like some form of—

Mechanical life.

Was this just an illusion?

───「 Human POV 」───

As Godzilla pondered this question, millions of robots gathered once again in a circular formation centered around the titan.

They launched another death charge against Godzilla. Although Godzilla didn't notice them until they were within 20 kilometers due to their small size, this distance was already insurmountable for the mechanical army.

Atomic breath released, dorsal fin lasers crisscrossed the battlefield, and tail beams swept through the horde.

The front-line robots were almost completely destroyed by the terrifying onslaught.

As for those behind them...

They only lost a fraction of their numbers?

The robots jumped upward.

Just as Godzilla swung its tail.

They jumped up.

Life evolves.
