Chapter 53 - All is never as it seems

Leah's house was only a few blocks from mine. As I walked there, my mind replayed every horrible things she'd done to me.

Because of her, I couldn't even jog around the block without feeling like a criminal.

She had turned every wife in the neighborhood against me, whispering lies behind closed doors. Telling them I had stolen her fiancé on her wedding day. That I'd brought shame to her and her family. The worst one was that dad had died because of me.

Now, everyone avoided me. They stared when they thought I wasn't looking. Whispered when I walked past. Mothers pulled their children close, as if I were contagious.

I was like a plague everyone avoided. There was no doubt that this was Leah's intention for moving close by.

To haunt me.

"Are you really going to talk to Leah?" Faye asked, her voice laced with fear. 

Who was she afraid of? Me or Leah? 

But I knew the answer even before my brain thought of it.
