"Why did you tell Faye to lie to me? Why did you make her say Christian was the one who sent them away?"
The shock that had registered on Leah's face seconds ago vanished.
She sat down calmly.
She took off her sunglasses and hat, then crossed her legs like we were sitting down for tea and not a confrontation.
My eyes lingered on the bruise again, now clearer in the light. My mind confirmed what I had already suspected.
This wasn't a shower accident.
Someone had hit her. Her husband, most likely. I wanted to ask again, to push, but she spoke.
"Who said I told Faye to lie?" She asked coolly.
"Leah…" Faye began, but stopped immediately when Leah shot her a sharp glare.
"I didn't expect you to admit it." I said, regaining my voice, my tone colder than I had intended, "Honestly, it doesn't matter even if you do. But this is the last time I'll tolerate your nonsense. Consider this your first and last warning."
