Chapter 18 - Behind

The two figures maneuvered in the air, launching their attacks at each other, their movements unfollowable by the eye, lightning flashed, making a deafening sound, the flashes were so bright, but again their movements were much faster before the light could reach them.

A flash of lightning struck, at that moment the man's face was highlighted, Ray was floating in the air, his clothes were messy and dirty, but there was not the slightest wound visible there, as if the big wound that was made was just a scratch that meant nothing to him.

"So... This is what you choose?"

Lightning flashed again, this time showing the figure in the black robe, his face completely covered, almost invisible at all, he raised his hand, then a very large piece of glass appeared, sliding and trying to hit Ray's body.

Ray jolted his body in the air, floating in the air, at the same speed as before, he continued to maneuver, trying to avoid the glass chunks that were targeting him.

The glass chunks were getting faster, but slowly they were losing their speed, they were vibrating, distorted by something, which made their movement and direction change erratically.

Ray then looked at the cloaked man, the glass chunk that had been targeting him had disappeared, Ray's eyes were drooping, starting to get tired of the battle he didn't really want.

"Is this the path you ultimately choose?"

The figure was silent, his face still covered, not really showing even the slightest gap of his face that could be seen at that time, but Ray knew, he knows who it is, He quickly flew back, away from the man, trying to avoid battle as much as possible.

The robed man raised a finger, and in the blink of an eye, a large mirror appeared in front of him, swallowing Ray's body, at that time when the thin air began to clear, Ray's body was no longer anywhere, his figure disappeared.

*

"What?? Ray disappeared?"

Jerry's voice rose as sweat began to pour down his temples, his face twisted in a worried expression, his heart was restless and anxious after hearing the words that came out of my mouth a moment ago.

"Yes, he really is nowhere to be found, I've looked everywhere for him, but to no avail. and I found one strange thing."

Jerry's eyes were round, ready to listen to me at any moment, his face was tilted slightly forward, looking for the right moment to listen.

"I have investigated, where he might have been yesterday, and what he might have done, and the last trace I saw of him was that he seemed to have just disappeared into the back garden of his house, which is located not far from his house."

"So... Let's say he was walking around there, and then something happened that made him just disappear?"

I racked my brain, my hand went up to rub my stiff forehead, then I took a deep breath, my gaze returned to Jerry, still sitting there, like a loyal dog.

"Even if it's possible that the one who did that was our enemy, we can't underestimate him, right?"

Jerry raised an eyebrow, looking at me with confusion and hesitation, as if my argument sounded wrong to his ears, he shook his head slowly.

"No, I think there's more to it than just a normal fight, we know Ray, and we know how strong he is, so I think just getting rid of him like that would be ridiculous."

"You're right, this is definitely suspicious."

The sound of footsteps began to approach us, at the end of the corridor we saw Queen and Cestele running towards us, their faces looked covered in worry, so... As they approached, their breaths were short, then after they had recovered enough breath, Cestele spoke up.

"What happened to Ray? Did he really disappear? Or did he run away from home? Please tell me!"

Jerry shook his head quickly, then his voice was heard to correct Cestele's wrong thinking.

"He didn't run away from home or anything, but we can't find him anywhere?"

Cestele's eyes were dim and withered, her face was downcast with regret clearly written on her face, her hands gripping her skirt tightly.

"I think this is my fault... I was so rude to him yesterday, I'm so sorry."

"What? I don't think that's possible, Ray is someone who really doesn't take rude people or anything personally, so I think it's just your misunderstanding."

Celeste lowered her head, looking down with mixed feelings, Queen also stood there nervously, her hands then rose to calm Celeste down.

Jerry and I stood up from our seats, my eyes looked at Queen and Celeste who were still standing not far from us, they were watching us with a confused expression in their heads.

"We have to find Fizen, you two want to come?"

Queen and Celeste nodded their heads, agreeing with my statement, then our feet started walking trying to mark Fizen, then in class 1-C, we saw Fizen leaning against the wall in the corridor there, as if he was waiting for us.

"Fizen, this is bad—"

"This is about Ray, right? Yep, I guessed it."

I nodded slowly, then let my eyes stare at him sharply, waiting for him to answer the question that I probably didn't need to explain anymore.

"Well... He's not completely gone, I'm sure."

"And why are you so sure of that?"

Queen threw a question at him, a moment of silence fell between us, while Queen waited for Fizen to answer with a pause that felt eternal.

"Let's say that we can detect each other's presence, within a certain scope it's easy, but I have a much wider perception to detect that. I could still feel Ray's presence, but it was very limited, something was limiting my perception, as well as Ray's."

Fizen's answer left Queen and Celeste stunned, but then they shook their heads, trying to believe it completely.

"Wait Fizen, you mean there's something limiting Ray's perception?"

"Right, and that happened to me too, like I couldn't really get there."

I racked my brain, processing all the incoming information, my hand rising to rub my chin, starting to think of all the possibilities that could have happened to Ray.

"Maybe... Someone is limiting Ray's perception, or worse... Ray is in a place where his perception is messed up in some way."

"Ahhh, you're right Kama, that is something possible, I think your second point makes a lot more sense."

Fizen nodded his head, while Celeste and Queen started to get confused with every word that came out of our mouths.

"If that was true, then there was only one place that could possibly mess with Ray's perception, but as Jerry said, there was more to it than just fighting."

"So... Where is that place?"

Celeste's voice came out with a slight tremor, her eyes filled with curiosity and a hope embedded there.

"There's only one possible place, and that's behind the mirror."
