Chapter 9 - Pushing her away.

Liam's POV.

I couldn't help but chuckle as she got out of the house.

Madeline was fun to be around.

My face fell as soon as that thought crossed my mind.

I shouldn't be finding her fun.

I admit that Madeline had a nice personality based on the interactions we had for a few minutes, and that's it.

I shouldn't let her affect me and I should stay away from her, emotionally at least.

Just as I was about to head back inside, my phone rang in my pocket. I sighed, already having an idea about who it was.

I pulled it out as I answered my manager. "What?"

"You have a photoshoot today," came the deep voice of my manager, It seemed like he just woke up.

"Don't tell me you forgot."

I rubbed my face. Of course, I forgot, yesterday was so epic that I didn't remember my schedule for today.

"And," the voice on the other end continued, "Alexandra, is she with you or did she leave?"

I clenched my jaw. Just hearing her name made me feel exhausted.

My thoughts drifted back to a pair of shocked big brown eyes, I shook my head as if that would help me get her out of my mind.

Suddenly I realised something, 'If I kept doing things like that, would she leave me and go?'

My temptation took over me as I came up with a devious plan to drive Madeline away.

"Yeah, yeah, she left" I replied. "What time?"

"I will be there in an hour to pick you up. Don't be late."

I arrived at the bustling shooting location, it was the perfect time to get my hair and make-up done.

As I walked towards the dressing room a familiar voice rang, ''Wow! Look who just showed up.''

I didn't have to turn to identify the person behind the voice, 'Alexandra'.

It was time to put on my act.

"Alexandra," I greeted her, dragging her name as I deepened my voice a little, putting my hands into my pockets I asked her. "Missed me already?"

She scoffed, crossing her arms. "Please, don't flatter yourself. Did you forget what happened yesterday or are you acting dumb?."

I could feel my body turn stiff, I was rude to her yesterday, plus she saw Madeline, this only meant trouble.

"Oh?'' I put my best act of pretence.

"And what would that be? Sorry, You know I was a little drunk yesterday."

"A girl," Alexandra stated, walking towards me she raised her eyebrows. "Who is she?"

I had to give her an answer to that, Who was Madeline? My wife? No, I couldn't possibly say that.

"That?" I said with a light chuckle. "She's just my mum's friend's daughter. Unfortunate circumstances, you know? She's staying for a while."

Alexandra's lips pursed as if trying to figure out if it was a lie. "And that's it?"

I shrugged my shoulders as I said. "What else would it be?"

She still looked unconvinced, but I knew Alexandra well. She loved being reassured of her position.

I stepped closer to her lowering my head so that I could whisper into her ears, I was playing a dangerous game and I knew that the consequences would be bad.

I slightly gripped her wrist, "Come on, Alexandra. If she were anything more than that, don't you think you'd already know?"

I moved away from her but not before my thumb brushed her wrist subtly.

For a second, her gaze flickered, the suspicion she had melting just a little.

"So, she's nothing to you?" she asked again as if confirming.

I tilted my head slightly to meet her gaze. "You're the only one who's ever been something to me."

I hated myself for saying that.

But it had to be done. If Alexandra believed she had my attention, she wouldn't dig deeper. And maybe she would be the perfect distraction to drive Madeline away.

A part of me felt uncomfortable with using this idea to drive Madeline away but it had to be done.

And it would be better this way. Alexandra was also not into serious relationships, she would probably ditch me after two months.

Alexandra let out a small laugh, her hand resting on her hip. "You're such a liar, Liam Fernandes. You kicked me out of your house yesterday."

I smirked. "And yet you're still here."

I pulled her close before continuing, ''Sorry sweetheart, she is just a naive country bumpkin, it was her first day staying at my place, I didn't want to scare her away, I didn't even know she was staying at my place.''

She sighed, shaking her head before turning back towards the set. "You're excused for once, should we continue what we left off yesterday?"

Her voice turned sultry and I forced a smile nodding my head as I exhaled slowly.

This was for the best.

At least, that's what I would like to believe.
