LYRA'S POV
"Where is Zade?"
"He's on his way."
I manage to open my eyes slightly and see a female worker leaving the room. My eyelids fall shut again, and I suck in the pain coursing through my body. I force myself to try again, lifting my eyelids with great effort. This time, I see Kymon staring at me with a scowl. He seems to notice that I'm awake but quickly looks away.
My body feels like metal—heavy, unmovable. I don't know what he's done to me, but I can't move. It feels like pounds of steel are pressing down on me.
A man dressed in a doctor's uniform approaches Kymon. They speak to each other in hushed tones, occasionally glancing in my direction, making my skin crawl.
Then, suddenly, everything comes crashing down my spine. Cas. My breath catches, and my eyes widen as I jerk upright in bed, panic seizing my chest.
I remember wanting to go to him—to help him—but I couldn't. What if they've finished him off?
