Opal took a slow, measured step forward, resisting the urge to grit her teeth as the familiar ache settled deep in her muscles. She was walking, but gods, her body felt like lead.
It didn't matter.
She was finally getting out of this damn hospital.
"Try not to look so excited, kid."
Opal rolled her eyes as Forrest strolled beside her, hands in his pockets, grinning like he wasn't the most irritating person in existence.
"Shut up, Forrest."
"No, seriously. You're glowing. Practically skipping down the hall."
Opal stretched out on the couch, finally feeling like herself again—well, mostly. Her legs still ached, her body still protested when she moved too fast, but at least she wasn't trapped in a hospital bed with Ash breathing down her neck every second.
Speaking of Ash being overbearing…
She glanced around the living room, where her brothers had gathered, casually catching her up on everything she missed. It was chaos, as usual.
