Opal's POV
Her body still ached.
Every breath tugged at sore ribs, every muscle felt like it had been torn apart and reassembled wrong. But pain wasn't what held her attention anymore.
She was awake.
She was sitting up.
And now she wanted answers.
Opal leaned back against the mountain of pillows Seraphina had stacked behind her, her legs still trembling from her attempt to walk earlier. Ash sat at the edge of the bed like a statue, arms crossed over his chest, his silver eyes locked on her like she might spontaneously combust if he blinked.
She narrowed her eyes at him.
"Okay, I'll bite. When exactly did you become this clingy?"
His face didn't so much as twitch. "Around the time you were kidnapped, poisoned, and nearly died in a stranger's basement."
Opal snorted. "That's not the answer I was hoping for. I was expecting something dramatic. Like, 'The moment I felt you vanish through the bond,' or, 'Right after I punched Kael in the face.'"
