Chapter 66 - Chapter 66: Slave Traders

"Those two are done for. They've been caught by those jackals!"

A fruit vendor nearby said after seeing six or seven men tie up the two men who had just killed someone a short while ago.

"Shh! Are you crazy? Can you just talk about those guys? Do you want to die?"

A companion beside him quickly covered his mouth, afraid that those jackals might hear his words.

Fortunately, they were too focused on the two men to hear.

He let out a sigh of relief and gave his outspoken companion a glare.

"If you don't want to get on their radar, it's best you stay out of this! Watch out for yourself or you might get caught and sold as a slave. Besides, those two don't look like good guys to me. Would good guys kill people so casually?"

After hearing his companion's words, he broke out in a cold sweat and fell silent.

Neither Charlotte nor The Red Count knew they had been captured by the slave - hunting team. They were still snoring away, and it didn't seem like they'd wake up anytime soon.

About ten minutes after the slave - hunting team left, a group of constables in uniforms arrived at the bar!

After entering the bar, everyone pointed their short - barreled guns at the door.

"Listen up, murderers inside. Surrender immediately with your hands on your heads and come out. Try to get lenient treatment. Don't resist!"

The constable captain who had been in the mayor's office earlier shouted through a megaphone.

But after he finished shouting, only one person came out with his hands on his head.

"Boss! Boss! Don't shoot, don't shoot. I'm the owner of this bar. Those two wanted men were taken away by Gibben's gang!"

The bar owner quickly explained with his hands on his head.

After hearing what the bar owner said, the constable captain's face instantly darkened.

As a constable, of course he knew who Gibben was. He was the leader of the slave - hunting team outside the Water 7 auction house and had a team under his command.

And most importantly, the boss behind the Water 7 auction house was his superior, Mayor Hoile.

Wasn't this putting him in a difficult position?

He turned around on the spot.

He looked at the more than twenty constables following him.

"Call it off! Let's go back! What bad luck!"

The constable spat and led the team back.

He had to report this matter to the mayor and let the mayor decide what to do next.

"Hahaha! Manager Fei, I've brought you two good catches again. Give them an appraisal!"

Gibben laughed heartily and waved his hand, signaling his subordinates to carry Charlotte and The Red Count up.

Manager Fei saw the two unconscious men being brought up.

Immediately, a strong smell of alcohol wafted over.

Manager Fei said in a shrill voice as he looked at the two of them.

"Oh! You only got these two? The quantity is not enough! You know that if you don't meet the auction house's quota, you'll be sold off too!"

Manager Fei looked at Gibben maliciously while looking at Charlotte and The Red Count.

"Hehe! Manager Fei, it's not time yet. I want to pick some more. I can't just make up the numbers, right?"

Gibben smiled and stepped forward to Manager Fei, discreetly stuffing a handful of berries into his pocket.

Manager Fei patted the berries in his pocket and showed a satisfied smile.

"Well! Well! Then you'd better make preparations early."

One of them is of good quality and looks quite imposing. I'll give you three million berries for him. And for this young lad, eight hundred thousand berries! How about that? A fair deal for all!"

Manager Fei said in a shrill voice.

"Okay! Alright! I'll do whatever Manager Fei tells me!"

Gibben rubbed his hands together, his eyes full of greed.

"Good! Go to the backstage to get the money!"

Manager Fei led the way into the backcourt of the auction house.

Along the way, there were cages of all sizes. Inside were not animals but people.

Each of them looked dazed, their eyes blank as they stared ahead.

"Lock them up in these two iron cages, shall we?"

Manager Fei pointed at two iron cages with a little bloodstain on them.

"Yes!"

Gibben waved his hand and told his underlings to throw The Red Count and Charlotte into the cages.

Click!

The sound of the cage locks being fastened echoed.

Manager Fei watched all this with satisfaction.

"Let's go!"

Manager Fei waved his hand.

Gibben knew it was time to get paid. Immediately, he grinned like a sycophant and followed Manager Fei.

They arrived at a luxurious office. Manager Fei took out three million eight hundred thousand berries from the safe and handed them to Gibben.

While Manager Fei was getting the money, Gibben took a peek into the safe.

There were at least hundreds of millions of berries and several gold bars inside.

This made Gibben's eyes shine with greed for money.

But he didn't dare to make the slightest move, not even show his greed.

"Here! This is yours. And don't forget about the slaves this month. Make sure you don't fall short by even one, or you'll be the one to take their place!"

Manager Fei sat in the boss's chair, lighting a cigar.

"Yes, yes, yes! I guarantee I'll hand in all the slaves on time."

Gibben nodded hurriedly.

"Alright! You can leave now."

Manager Fei waved his hand.

Gibben slowly backed out and walked out of the auction house.

When the six or seven underlings saw their boss, they immediately surrounded him.

"Boss! How much did we get this time?"

The underlings asked with glistening eyes.

Gibben glanced at the auction house and spat angrily.

"Damn it! That old son of a bitch only gave me three million eight hundred thousand berries. I might as well have sold them to someone else!"

Then he spat again.

"What? Only three million eight hundred thousand berries? That's barely enough for one round of drinks!"

The underlings immediately complained when they heard the amount.

"Boss, didn't you tell Manager Fei that one of them is a big-time pirate with a bounty of eleven million berries?"

One of the underlings said.

Slap!

"Shit! I forgot. Damn that old guy. He intimidated me right from the start and made me forget!"

After hearing the underling's words, Gibben slapped himself hard on the face.

"Uh!"

The underling didn't say anything more after seeing his boss like that.

"Forget it! We're just unlucky this time. Let's go for a drink. Then we'll split up and search for valuable slaves everywhere.

Damn it! I still have three more slaves to hand in this month. If you don't want me to hand you in as slaves, then keep your eyes peeled for high-quality slaves.

Gibben glared menacingly at everyone and said.

"Yesss~!"

Startled by Gibben, everyone broke out in cold sweat.

They knew their boss was definitely capable of pulling off such a thing! Each of them cursed in their hearts.

"Let's go for a drink!"

Gibben carried the big box and made his way to the tavern.

Meanwhile, Charlotte and The Red Count were still sleeping in the iron cage. Their snoring was extremely loud in this quiet environment.

In this kind of atmosphere, those with a weak heart couldn't help but burst into tears.

"Wu wu wu wu!"

And this kind of emotion quickly caught on!

"Wu wu wu wu wu!"

All of a sudden, the prison cell where the slaves were held was filled with sobs.

Clang clang clang!

The sound of an iron rod hitting something rang out.
