Chapter 68 - Chapter 68: The Auction

"Rear - admiral! I got some news today. There's going to be a monthly auction in Water 7 tomorrow. Do you think the pirate Charlotte will go to have a look?"

A Navy colonel in plainclothes looked at Wells and said.

After hearing what his subordinate said, Wells thought for a while and realized it was very likely.

Because he had also seen the banners on the street. The monthly auction in Water 7 was going to be held tomorrow.

Charlotte might very well go to watch the fun.

The more he thought about it, the more likely it seemed.

Wells said excitedly,

Bang!

"Let's go to the auction house to have a look tomorrow!"

Wells slapped the table excitedly and said.

The loud noise caught the attention of several other people.

Wells quickly lowered his head and pretended to be sipping tea.

He hadn't forgotten his mission. He had to keep a low - profile surveillance.

After hearing what Rear - admiral Wells said, several nearby Navy officers silently nodded.

Early the next morning.

The whole Water 7 became lively.

There were nobles everywhere on the streets. Each of them had several bodyguards behind them, so the whole Water 7 suddenly became bustling.

Rear - admiral Wells pretended to be a noble and walked into the auction house with his bodyguards.

Surprisingly, no one stopped them. This made Wells feel ashamed. He felt that all his preparations the previous night had been in vain.

"Rear - admiral! We have invitations. As long as we show them, no one will check."

The colonel, also dressed as a noble, looked around disdainfully.

However, his disdainful look actually attracted the flirtatious glances of several noble ladies.

"Cough! Keep it low - key! We're here to find the pirate Charlotte. Don't care about the others!"

Wells whispered to the people around him, looking at the various people around.

"Yes! Rear - admiral!"

The colonel quickly nodded.

"Dear guest! Please come with me. The auction is about to start. Please go to your auction seat."

A waiter in a suit came up to Wells and said.

Wells gave a haughty look on the face and grunted, then followed the waiter to the auction seat.

"It's a private room?"

Wells looked at his deputy with a confused expression. He was surprised that he had managed to get an invitation to a private room.

Seeing the surprised look on the rear - admiral's face, the colonel was delighted.

When he heard that Wells was going to the auction yesterday, he had spent the whole night getting this invitation.

After entering the private room and waiting for the waiter to leave.

Wells looked at the colonel questioningly, hoping for an explanation.

The colonel immediately reported upon seeing Wells' expression.

"I bought it through a black - market intermediary. It cost me nearly one million berries."

As he said this, the colonel pretended to look heart - broken.

Seeing his expression, Wells curled his lips.

"I'll reimburse you when we get back to the Navy Headquarters!"

After saying that, he turned around and began to observe the people in the auction house.

He hadn't forgotten his mission.

To find Charlotte.

However, after patrolling for a long time, they didn't see Charlotte's figure.

"Could Charlotte have skipped the auction house?"

Wells looked around but didn't spot Charlotte. Impatiently, he stood up.

"Rear-admiral! How about we wait a little longer? The auction hasn't started yet, and not everyone should have arrived."

The colonel also felt a bit unsure since it was just his guess yesterday that Charlotte would come to the auction house.

After hearing what the colonel said, Wells fought back his impatience and sat back down.

Not long after, a figure on the auction stage slowly descended from the ceiling of the auction house on a small ladder.

Seeing the slowly descending auctioneer, the pre - arranged atmosphere group shouted at the top of their lungs.

"Ooh! Oooh! Ooooh!"

Watching the cheers of the crowd below, Wells had no intention of cheering. Instead, he frantically scanned the auction seats to see if there was any sign of Charlotte.

But he found nothing.

"Hohohoho! Welcome, everyone, to our Water 7 auction house. I'm your good friend, Dodo! Next, I'll conduct the auction for you."

A light and ethereal laugh rang out. After Dodo's voice faded, there was a burst of enthusiastic applause around the auction stage.

Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!

These were all shills pre - arranged by the auction house to liven up the atmosphere.

Their role was to prevent the auction from falling flat.

After Rear-admiral Wells watched all this, he stood up.

"Your Excellency, Rear-admiral! Did we forget about the private rooms? Could that Charlotte be in one of the private rooms?"

Seeing that Wells was about to leave, the colonel hurriedly voiced his suspicion.

After hearing what his deputy said, Wells frowned. He felt that what his deputy said made sense. Maybe Charlotte was in one of the private rooms.

Thinking of this, Wells suppressed his urge again and sat down.

He looked at the private rooms on the auction seats.

There were a total of twenty private rooms in all. Wells could only wait for them to reveal themselves.

Thinking of this, Wells had to stay even though he didn't want to.

Just as Wells was speaking, the auction had already started.

What was being auctioned were all kinds of jewelry and ornaments.

These were the favorites of the nobles, and the sounds of the scramble on the field were deafening.

And Charlotte was still sleeping in an iron cage backstage at the auction.

"Hurry up! Hurry up! Get all the next items and slaves ready and bring them up one by one in order."

Manager Fei's voice kept ringing out backstage. Staff members were walking back and forth carrying all kinds of jewelry.

One by one, slaves were led onto the auction stage with ropes around their necks.

Backstage!

"So noisy!"

After sleeping all night, Charlotte frowned and impatiently shouted at the annoying noise.

Charlotte instantly opened his eyes and looked around.

Charlotte's voice was very loud. Everyone stopped in their tracks and looked at Charlotte as if he were a fool.

And the slaves who were also locked in iron cages, looking dead - faced, also looked up at Charlotte in surprise.

"Um! Where is this? How did I end up here? Ah! My head hurts so much!"

Charlotte ignored the surrounding gazes and shook his head. Every time he woke up after getting drunk, his head hurt badly.

Charlotte's movements also disturbed The Red Count.

After hearing Charlotte's voice, The Red Count suddenly opened his eyes and looked around.

Unlike Charlotte, he didn't have a moment of confusion after waking up but instead sized up his surroundings.

He frowned as he looked around.

Especially when he saw that he was in an iron cage, his expression instantly turned angry, but he managed to hold his anger in when he saw Charlotte.

"Stop staring and get back to work!"

Manager Fei shouted anxiously after seeing the people around stop.

Then he picked up an iron rod and walked towards Charlotte.

"Hehe! Kid, you're awake. That's good. I was afraid you'd still be asleep when you're sent up later. Otherwise, you won't get to see yourself being auctioned off!"

Manager Fei still remembered Charlotte, after all, he was sent here just yesterday.
