The name David is incredibly common in Western society, and even adding the surname Haller doesn't make it particularly unique. There are probably many people with the same name.
But a David Haller who has been diagnosed as schizophrenic and is being treated at Clockwork Psychiatric Hospital—well, that's a different story.
Legion, full name David Charles Haller, is none other than the son of Professor X!
Of course, at this point, neither Professor X nor David himself is aware of this fact. But what makes David truly terrifying isn't just his lineage—it's the uncontrollable and overwhelming power he possesses.
His name, Legion, comes from a passage in the Gospel of Mark in the Bible.
According to the story, Jesus once encountered a man possessed by demons. When asked his name, the man replied, "My name is Legion, for we are many. Jesus then realized that this man wasn't just possessed by a single demon—he was inhabited by countless spirits.
David earned the title Legion because he is eerily similar to the man in the Bible. While he isn't possessed by demons, his mind houses over a thousand different personalities!
Most of these personalities are twisted and unpredictable. What's even more terrifying is that each one has a different superpower, some of which are devastatingly destructive.
Because of this, David is classified as a Level 5 mutant, one of the most powerful mutants in existence.
To put that into perspective—both Magneto and Professor X, the two major powerhouses of mutantkind, are only classified as Level 4 mutants. That alone speaks volumes about the sheer, uncontrollable power Legion can unleash at his peak!
Fortunately, the current David is nowhere near his full potential. Right now, his condition isn't too severe, and he probably only has a handful of alternate personalities. He's still far from reaching Level 5 mutant status.
But that doesn't mean he's not dangerous.
His power and mental stability work in opposite directions—the worse his condition gets, the stronger and more chaotic his abilities become. If something triggers a mental breakdown, he could instantly lose control and go on a rampage.
For ordinary people, even fighting a Level 3 mutant like Wolverine—who relies more on resilience than raw attack power—is already a death sentence. Against a level 5 mutant like the Legion, there would be no hope of survival.
So when Raymond realized that his fellow patient David was most likely the Legion he knew from Marvel lore, his entire body froze. His hair stood on end.
"Now I remember why Clockwork Psychiatric Hospital sounded so familiar… This place is a death trap!"
Raymond felt a strong urge to curse his bad luck.
It was bad enough that he had been reincarnated as a mental patient. But to make matters worse, he had somehow ended up in the same hospital as a walking apocalypse in human form?
How was he supposed to survive that?!
Sure, David seemed perfectly normal at the moment. But the moment one of his unstable personalities took over, he could snap and start massacring everyone in sight—just like that.
One wrong move, and Raymond could be the first to go.
Before this revelation, Raymond had considered taking his time in the hospital and laying low for a while. After all, there was food, shelter, and no immediate danger—so why rush?
At most, it would have just been a little boring.
But now... he could only regret his reckless actions of yesterday. If he had just taken a moment to assess the situation instead of digging his own grave, he wouldn't be stuck in the same hospital as this walking time bomb.
"What do I do now?" Raymond's mind raced.
He had been in many life-threatening situations before—he even had a gun pressed to the back of his head once. But this... this was on a whole other level.
Just as he was desperately trying to figure out his next move, a golden text suddenly flashed in his mind;
[Ding!]
[You have encountered S-Rank 'Anti-Hero' David Haller. Exploration points +100.]
[You have earned Exploration Points for the first time! [Infinite Personality System] successfully activated!]
[You can convert Exploration Points into Universal System Points to unlock various system functions. For details, focus on 'Beginner's Guide' in your mind.]
…
The sudden appearance of these golden messages didn't scare Raymond. Instead, he was ecstatic!
There was no need to guess—this was his cheat system!
It was just like those classic tropes—falling off a cliff always led to discovering a secret martial arts manual, saving an old beggar inevitably meant meeting a hidden master, and a family heirloom ring would definitely contain a wise old mentor.
What kind of transmigration story didn't come with a system?
The only surprise was that his system wasn't activated the moment he woke up—it had required a special condition to trigger.
"But what the hell is this Infinite Personality System?" Raymond was a bit confused.
He had read a lot of system-based novels, but most of them had simple pay-to-win mechanics or worked like simplified versions of the Main God's Space, allowing the protagonist to freely exchange items.
A system called the Infinite Personality System? That sounded... highly suspicious.
"What kind of weird setup is this?"
"Raymond… Raymond?"
A voice brought him back to reality.
When he focused again, he realized that David had unknowingly walked up to him and was now waving a hand in front of his face, trying to get his attention.
"Shit!"
Raymond jumped back a few steps in shock before he managed to calm down. After a moment, he realized that David hadn't done anything threatening—he had simply been concerned about Raymond spacing out.
"S-Sorry, I was lost in thought…" Raymond quickly explained.
David sighed with relief and smiled. "Good. You weren't responding just now—I thought they put you on some new experimental meds or something."
"Thanks for your concern… Uh, my head feels a little dizzy. I think I'll go lie down for a bit. See you later."
Right now, Raymond's mind was completely occupied with his newly activated system. Even his fear of David had temporarily taken a backseat—he just wanted to find an excuse to slip away.
David didn't seem suspicious and simply nodded with a smile. "All right, get some rest. There's still three hours until dinner, so you have time for a nap. See you later."
"Yeah, see you later!"
After waving David goodbye, Raymond returned to his room and immediately followed the system's instructions, focusing on 'Beginner's Guide' in his mind.
Within moments, detailed information about the Infinite Personality System appeared in his mind like an instruction manual, giving him a general understanding of its functions.
