Chapter 4 - The distorted truth

William and Cain remained hidden among the trees, watching the camp in silence. The men with tattoos were confidently moving inside the camp, as if they were afraid of nothing. There was no clear person among them as a leader, but it was clear that this group was well organised.

Cain whispered, "So, what's your plan? Are we going to sneak in and question someone? Or are you going to slaughter them all as you usually do?"

William did not respond. He had a habit of ignoring questions that he didn't like. But this time, he wasn't sure what to answer himself.

He knew that killing these men would not bring back the past, but it was the only way he knew.

But this time, he decided to try something different.

"We need a prisoner." He finally said.

Cain smiled maliciously. "And finally, a little thought before killing."

They waited until night fell, and when some men began to head to the tents to sleep, they moved silently.

One of the guards was standing at the edge of the camp, yawning while holding his sword. He didn't expect anyone to attack him here.

He didn't have time to scream.

One movement, and fell to the ground unconscious.

"Not bad." Cain said, helping William pull the man away.

Minutes later, the prisoner woke up, and found himself tied to a tree, and pointed it against William's red eyes that shone in the dark.

"Where is your leader?" William asked in a low voice, but he had a silent threat.

The man hesitated, but felt the danger surrounding him. "We don't have a single leader, we're just a small cell."

William pressed a wound on the man's shoulder, which made him scream.

"I said, where is your leader?"

The man breathed with difficulty, and then finally said: "If you are looking for the mastermind, he is not here... He is not like us."

Cain frowns. "What do you mean?"

The man hesitated, then said, "He is not part of our community, he is a completely different person. He is... a respectable person, a prestigious figure in society."

William narrowed his eyes. That wasn't what he expected to hear.

"Why would he support you?"

"He doesn't support us... we're just his tools."

Cain looked at William. "This is becoming more complicated than we expected."

The man continued in a trembling voice: "He is part of an old sect, a strong sect, but it is not like us. It is a sect that rules the shadows, claiming to seek good, but leaving people like us to do what we want."

William felt something strange in his chest. Throughout his life, he thought his enemies were just mindless monsters, but now, he discovers that there is a much wider network than he thought.

"What's his name?"

The man shook his head. "No one knows his real name, but people call him the wise."

William's silence. This name was not familiar, but it carried with it a strange feeling, as if it were part of a larger mystery that he did not yet understand.

Cain frowned and said: "A prestigious person, and a sect that claims goodness? That doesn't make sense."

But for William, everything made sense.

His world was always corrupt, and there was nothing pure.

If this wise man is the mastermind, he will find him.

And he will find out for himself if this man is an enemy... or something else completely.

But before that, he had to finish what he had started here.

He turned his eyes to the prisoner, then raised his sword.

"Of course, I didn't expect another end," Cain sighed.

A short cry, and then the night returned to its silence.

William looked at the camp again, his eyes burning with anger.

His journey had just begun.
