The Art of Enchantments
"Alright, about asking where you come from," Molly said, changing the subject.
"Mmm. I come from another continent. Let's just say my people are more obsessive about hiding than regular wizards," Einar said, not wanting to explain too much.
"Obviously, he comes from another country. The country of lunatics," Ron murmured under his breath so no one would hear. But Einar heard him, though he easily ignored it.
"Well, it doesn't matter where you come from. You are welcome in our magical world," Arthur said happily as everyone continued eating.
During dinner, they talked about all sorts of things, like how Einar knew several professions: potions, enchantments, medicine, smithing, and many more.
"Ah, enchanting is like alchemy. Except, instead of creating alchemical items with magic, you take an ordinary object and place an enchantment on it," Einar explained.
"Can you show us?" the twins quickly asked.
"Well... for powerful enchantments, I need my enchanting table, but if it's something simple..." he said while grabbing a knife from the table and using another to carve some runes under everyone's interested gaze.
"Done. Now, when it makes a cut, it will also burn," he said while cutting a piece of meat from his stew, which caught fire for half a second without leaving any burn marks. After all, it was a simple enchantment.
Everyone looked surprised, even Einar, because he realized that the enchantment, instead of absorbing the small soul gem he had hidden in his sleeve, absorbed mana from the air to activate.
"That's awesome!" the twins said again with more interest than before.
Einar also snapped out of his surprise, realizing he would have time to figure out why he didn't need the small soul gem.
"The stronger the enchantment, the longer it lasts and the more damage it does. Also, you need to be a good enchanter to make better enchantments," Einar explained.
"That's amazing. It's similar to alchemy, but with different runes and a different method," Arthur said with interest. After all, he also enjoyed playing around with alchemy.
"In normal alchemy, you have to link the runes while creating the object, which can be quite complicated since you have to focus on two things at once," Arthur said quickly. "But if the object is already made, you have one less task to worry about."
"I have a couple of books. If you want, I can lend them to you. In exchange, you can't show them to anyone," Einar said.
"Sure, I swear. Ah, but can I tell Dumbledore that I can use those enchantments? Obviously, I won't show him the books," Arthur asked quickly. He could learn and not tell Dumbledore, but he owed him a lot, so he felt indebted. But if Einar said no, maybe it was better not to learn so he wouldn't accidentally reveal it.
"You can say whatever you want, except for the method and what you learned," Einar said calmly. It wasn't like he wanted to keep the knowledge to himself. He might even teach it to his students later, but first, he wanted to understand their thoughts since he didn't want evil wizards to become stronger because of him.
From what he learned years ago, there was a dark wizard with rather idiotic ideas. And his followers were still lingering around. Einar even heard that several of their children went to Hogwarts like it was nothing. Obviously, he wasn't foolish enough to blame the children for their parents' crimes.
But it seemed that these same children had their parents' thoughts, which they learned at home. So Einar needed to study them well before teaching them anything. Obviously, he wouldn't teach them something so powerful just like that, but some things might not be so bad.
From what he gathered from some drunken people at the bar who were former Hogwarts students, it seemed that the professors formed clubs where the best students would gather. Maybe Einar would do the same out of boredom. The students he chose would also help him improve the combination of this world's magic with his own.
After all, even in his downtime, Einar wouldn't stop growing stronger. He didn't know if someday the Daedric Princes could come to this world to hunt him down or corrupt him directly.
After dinner, the twins invited Einar to see their experiments, which he gladly accepted.
"This candy can turn a person into a bird for a couple of seconds. While this other one will make you roar like an animal," they said as they showed him everything they had.
"They're good for pranks," Einar said with a smile.
"Of course! Our dream is to open our own joke shop," they said in unison.
"I see..." Then Einar remembered the enchanted knife from earlier. "Lend me one of those candies that make you roar like a lion," Einar quickly said.
Fred grabbed one and handed it to him with interest.
"Since it's technically a tool and not food," he said while using one of the tools on the table to carve a rune. "Here. What's your test subject?" Einar asked.
The twins quickly realized what he was trying to test, and both grabbed Einar, dragging him out of the room.
Meanwhile, Ron, who was cleaning the fireplace since his friends would be coming over in a few days, felt someone tap his shoulder, so he turned around.
Then he felt something enter his throat.
"What's… meow?" Ron said as he caught on fire, and when he tried to scream in fear, only a meow came out of his voice. The fire quickly went out, so it didn't cause him any harm. But the psychological damage was complete.
"Mommy!" Ron screamed as he ran off, trying to hold back tears.
"You two are demons… although it seems the spell was weakened to just a meow," said Einar, looking at the twins.
"Please, teach us. We'll make the same promise our father made."
"No. We'll make an Unbreakable Vow," the two said quickly, looking at Einar with hope.
"Hahaha, alright. Just don't tell anyone," said Einar simply, making the twins happy.
"From now on, you're our master," they both said excitedly.
Obviously, they didn't know that Einar would be their teacher at Hogwarts, so they were in for a big surprise.
After that, Molly came to scold them for once again using their brother as a test subject, so they were kicked outside to play and not bother everyone else.
The twins then grabbed their brooms and showed Einar around the area.
Einar had to go get his own, which he had bought but hadn't even touched yet.
The twins were shocked when they saw a Firebolt and quickly explained to him how to use it.
Einar got the hang of it within seconds since it was easier than riding a horse.
So, the three of them went for a ride around the area while the twins explained the surroundings.
"That house belongs to the Lovegoods."
"They're the closest, then there are the Diggorys."
"Cedric Diggory goes to our school, but he's a show-off," they said, laughing.
"Oh, Luna Lovegood also goes to our school, but she's quite lonely, so we don't see her often," Fred quickly added.
After a couple of laps, they finished the tour and returned home, where they said their goodbyes as the twins promised to come back the next day to learn, which Einar easily agreed to.
"It was a pretty exhausting day," Einar said as he entered his house. After reading a random book, he went to sleep, feeling relaxed.
The next day, he woke up early, went out to train a bit during the morning, and then began creating something next to his house.
By the time the twins arrived, he had finished most of the work.
"Hello, Einar, what are you doing?" they asked quickly as they approached, interested.
"I'm creating an arcane trap," Einar said calmly as he placed a small gem on the tip of a pillar. "I'm just testing if it works with the spells I recently learned," he said as he finished working.
"This one has the paralysis spell. Do you want to try it out?" Einar said with a smile.
"Sure! Who do we test it on?" George said eagerly.
But before Einar could reply, Fred pushed George forward toward the pillar. The pillar quickly activated, releasing the spell and paralyzing George.
"Looks like it works," Fred said with a grin.
Einar hadn't expected that, as he had planned to bring an animal to test the trap. But he simply shook his head and helped George release the spell.
"Damn troll head," George said as soon as he was freed and launched himself at his brother, and the two began wrestling on the ground.
"Alright, that's enough. Don't you want to come inside and learn?" Einar said, stopping them.
"We want to learn too. This will be great for so many pranks," they said eagerly.
"I don't care what you use it for, as long as you don't harm innocent people. If it's for bad people, feel free to do whatever you want," Einar said calmly.
The three of them entered Einar's house as he led them to the enchantment room, which was already furnished and organized with the enchantment table in the middle.
"This is the enchantment table. But before using it, you'll need to learn some basic runes," Einar said as he placed a large book in front of the twins.
