Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: A Mother's Betrayal

The night was cloaked in an unsettling stillness as Dakshi returned home from her friend's birthday party. The celebration had been cheerful, yet her mind remained restless. She unlocked the front door quietly, careful not to disturb her parents. As she entered the dimly lit hallway, the muffled sounds of laughter and hushed whispers reached her ears. It wasn't unusual for her father to have guests over, but something about the voices made her pause.

Curiosity tugged at her, and she moved closer to the source of the noise—her parents' bedroom. The door was ajar, a faint golden glow spilling out into the hallway. Dakshi's heart pounded in her chest as she hesitated, torn between walking away and finding out what was happening. Against her better judgment, she peered through the gap.

Her eyes widened in shock as she took in the scene before her. Her mother, Savita, was on the bed, wrapped in a moment of intimacy with none other than her father's closest friend, Mr. Sharma. The sight was surreal, almost dreamlike, yet it was undeniably real. Savita's laughter was light and carefree, a stark contrast to the tense, quarrelsome woman Dakshi had grown up with. Mr. Sharma's hand traced a path along her arm as they shared whispers and stolen kisses.

But it didn't stop there. The intimacy between them was palpable, a forbidden dance that seemed to have been perfected over time. Savita lay back on the bed, her hair cascading over the pillows, as Mr. Sharma leaned over her. His lips brushed against her neck, trailing down to her collarbone, each kiss deliberate and tender. Savita's eyes fluttered shut, her breath hitching as she arched into his touch.

Dakshi's legs felt like lead, her breath caught in her throat. She wanted to turn away, to pretend she hadn't seen anything, but she couldn't. Her gaze was locked on the scene, every detail imprinting itself into her mind. The way her mother's face lit up with unrestrained joy, the way Mr. Sharma's touch lingered on her skin—it was a side of her mother she had never seen before. A side that was raw, vulnerable, and unguarded.

Mr. Sharma's hands moved with a practiced ease, sliding down Savita's sides as he kissed her stomach, his lips leaving a trail of fire in their wake. Savita's fingers tangled in his hair, pulling him closer as she whispered something inaudible. The sound of her laughter, soft and breathless, filled the room, mingling with the low hum of Mr. Sharma's voice.

Dakshi's chest tightened as she watched her mother's body respond to Mr. Sharma's touch. Savita's skin glowed in the dim light, her every movement fluid and uninhibited. It was as if she had shed the weight of her responsibilities, the mask of the dutiful wife and mother, and embraced a side of herself that Dakshi had never known existed.

The betrayal hit her like a tidal wave. This wasn't just a fleeting moment of affection; it was a secret that could shatter their family. The weight of it pressed down on Dakshi, suffocating her. She felt like an intruder in her own home, a witness to a truth she was never meant to uncover.

Savita and Mr. Sharma were lost in their world, oblivious to Dakshi's presence. Their whispers turned into murmurs, their laughter fading into silence. Dakshi's chest tightened as she heard her mother's voice, soft and vulnerable.

"Do you think he suspects anything?" Savita asked, her fingers tracing the edge of Mr. Sharma's collar.

"No," he replied, his voice low and assured. "Rajesh has no idea. And he won't, as long as we're careful."

The words were like daggers, each syllable deepening the wound in Dakshi's heart. Her father, for all his flaws, didn't deserve this. And yet, here was her mother, betraying him with a man he trusted implicitly. Dakshi's mind raced with questions. How long had this been going on? Did her father truly have no idea? And, most importantly, why?

The scene played out like a slow-moving nightmare, each moment stretching into eternity. Dakshi's hands trembled as she backed away from the door, her mind spinning with the weight of what she had just witnessed. She fled to her room, shutting the door behind her as she sank to the floor.

Tears streamed down her face as she struggled to process the betrayal. Her mother, the woman she had looked up to for guidance and strength, was now a stranger. The foundation of her family, already fragile from years of conflict, had crumbled beneath her.

For days, Dakshi carried the secret, her emotions vacillating between anger, sadness, and confusion. She couldn't bring herself to confront her mother, nor could she tell her father. The truth was a ticking time bomb, threatening to destroy everything in its path.

The night of Dakshi's death, the secret loomed heavy in her mind. Had she finally confronted her mother? Had the weight of the betrayal become too much to bear? Or had someone discovered that she knew the truth and silenced her forever?

As the investigators dig deeper into Dakshi's life, the shadow of her mother's betrayal grows darker. Was Savita's affair the catalyst for Dakshi's demise, or is there more to the story than meets the eye?
