Amelia didn't have to wait long for Hannah's next move.
The ringing of her phone and Killian's name displayed on it was a clear indication that her elder sister had played her move, and now it was her turn to counterattack.
Amelia sat on her room's bed and looked at her phone for a few seconds, deliberately delaying.
It stopped ringing for a second before ringing again.
She didn't pick up the call for another three rings before she touched the answer button.
"Hello,"
"This is me," Alpha Killian's cold voice rang from the other side. Amelia leaned back, her weight supported on her hands, as she looked at the phone.
"And who exactly is this?" Amelia said.
There was silence on the other end for some time.
Judging from Killian's proud personality, she knew this simple sentence must've provoked his ego, and under normal circumstances, the man would've ended the call, but he wouldn't, not now what Hannah asked him to call her.
The man always had a soft spot for Hannah, even if he didn't love her.
It was strange, and Amelia didn't know why when it was clear she loved him the most, but it wasn't like that thing mattered anymore.
"I didn't know you had it in you to delete my number," Killian said.
Amelia smirked inwardly.
"Alpha Argus, is that you?" She deliberately took the name of the boy who always had bad blood with Alpha Killian over a land dispute.
"It's Alpha Killian," Killian roared, and Amelia hummed.
"I didn't know you had it to call me yourself. I wondered who would call me after knowing who I got married to," Amelia deliberately used her marriage to create a barrier between them, and Killian could feel it.
According to Hannah, Amelia wasn't happy there with the monster, but she still loved him. Thus, Hannah asked him to tell Amelia he would go and bring her home.
Killian didn't want to do that, but Hannah mentioned that Amelia had once helped him by saving his mother's life, and he should repay her by helping her.
It was the same excuse Amelia always used to get things done her way, and he was starting to get tired of it.
As much as he loved his mother, he regretted the time he asked Amelia for help.
"If you need my help, all you have to do is ask. Stop bringing your sister into this all the time and tainting her. It's amazing how you are younger than her but still more cunning," Killian said.
Amelia hummed.
So Hannah twisted some facts again to make it look like she asked for help from Killian?
"Killian?" Amelia said softly.
"Hm?" Killian asked.
"Get lost. If you ever dared to call me from this or any other number, I'll poison you in the worst way possible," Amelia said before ending the call.
As far as she knew this man, her words would irk him, and he would tell her sister that. Hannah would try to do something to get her in trouble so that she could take her out of there and act like a savior. This way, she will have something over her. It was one trick that always worked for her.
Amelia smiled thoughtfully. This time, she was ready for all the tricks.
Killian stood frozen in his spot, looking at the phone in disbelief.
Wait. Did he hear it right? The girl who used to sing songs about her love for him actually threatened to poison him.
Meanwhile, Cyrus, who heard her conversation through Bluetooth, chuckled at her choice of words, surprising Grayson and Patrick, who were still in his office and talking to him about their next move against the rogues and unseen forces making things hard for their kingdom.
They looked at the man with weird gazes, unsure what made him laugh like that.
Cyrus cleared his throat before raising his hand to tell Fabian to continue the report, his mind returning to Amelia's words.
She was becoming more and more confused with each passing minute.
Didn't the reports say that she was head over heels for Killian? Then why did she become so bold?
Downstairs, Amelia walked to the maids and sat before Miss Quinn.
"Princess, did you need anything?" Miss Quinn asked, making all the maids look at each other.
"Nothing. I was just getting bored. That's why I came here. I can come and talk to you guys, right?" she asked innocently, her facade back on.
Miss Quinn looked at her innocent expression, and her heart melted. She was about to decline and tell her that royals don't sit with the servants, but she changed her mind at the last minute.
"So what are you guys talking about? And who was that man with the legendary former king?" Amelia asked, intrigued.
Miss Quinn looked around to ensure there was no one to catch their princess talking to them before she sighed.
"That's Dominic's son, another chosen member for the King trials," Miss Quinn said.
Amelia furrowed her brows.
Did she say King trials? She has heard of things called Luna trials or Queen trials, where the ladies are given multiple tests based on emotional, mental, and physical intelligence. The tests test their endurance, strength, and loyalty to the kingdom.
But she had never heard of anything called king trials.
Even in her last life, she didn't think she heard anything of that sort happening. Could it be that it happened after she was dead?
"What is it?" Amelia asked, intrigued.
Miss Quinn sighed.
"Well, you see, our King, Cyrus Valentino, was supposed to be the real king, but due to some mishaps with his birth and wolf and after his mother left the kingdom, he couldn't be appointed, " one of the maids said.
Miss Quinn didn't want to discuss such details, but now that the word was out, she had no choice but to end the matter with a closure.
"Everyone calls him King because he is the chosen one, but in reality, he will have to pass the tests once he gains his wolf's full control, and only after that will he be declared the true king," Miss Quinn said.
Amelia nodded in understanding.
So, King Cyrus wasn't precisely the true king. Was that why Dominic had tried so hard to get rid of him?
And he did get rid of the king by using her.
That image of Cyrus taking his last breaths while looking at her was etched in her mind, and her eyes welled with tears. She had destroyed too much in her previous life. She wouldn't make the same mistake this time.
"In that case, I'll ensure that our king finds his wolf soon and gets the throne he deserves," Amelia said, rising from her seat like a warrior.
The microphone immediately caught her loud words, and Cyrus raised his brows at her audacity to speak of the matter so blatantly.
"About taking that girl back to her home for the ritual, I think I should do it," Cyrus suddenly said and wore his overcoat.
Grayson, who was reading the file, looked at his grandson.
What got into his head suddenly? He looked at Fabian to know, but the subordinate was equally clueless.
Cyrus descended the stairs and looked at the girl sitting with her back to him. Her soft laughter echoed in the hall as she patted her thighs to control her happiness over something.
The maids, who sensed their king's arrival, looked behind the girl with wary expressions as they gulped.
Miss Quinn tried to signal the girl that their king was here, but Cyrus's glare stopped her from doing anything.
"What are you guys looking at? Do you guys not believe me? I can protect him for real," Amelia stood and showed them her invisible biceps, making Miss Quinn and Trevor bite the inside of their cheeks to stop their laughs.
Cyrus looked at the girl, flexing her invisible muscles, and sighed.
What kind of weird creature has he gotten himself married to?
He grabbed the girl's extended hands and lifted her.
"Woah, am I flying?" Amelia widened her eyes before she felt the pressure in her arms, and her body froze in its place.
The man turned her around effortlessly, lifting her to his eye level.
His cold, calm blue eyes met her amber, anxious eyes, and Amelia gulped.
"I was just joking," She said, and Cyrus looked at her blankly.
"Weird girl," He said before dropping her like a toy.
Amelia massaged her butt as she fell to the ground, looking at his back with a scowl.
"We are going to your home. Get ready," Cyrus turned to look at her, and Amelia immediately turned her scowl into a smile, making the man shake his head and leave.
