Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Assumption

— Yes. — John replied flatly.

Standing to the side, Vosen added:

— We were only told that Balen couldn't be found... His family claimed he hadn't come home, and in other places he used to visit — he wasn't there.

«So that's how it is...»

Lon nodded.

That's roughly what he expected, since the situation couldn't have ended so simply. Three dead bodies, and one of the employees went missing... From the outside, this situation didn't look good, and here it was — confirmation. Balen — the one who disappeared — couldn't be found anywhere.

This only strengthened his guilt in the incident — he continued to remain the most suspicious. Though Lon understood that the Seon Guard wouldn't be so easily fooled, and they probably suspected it was just a bluff. But that didn't change the essence.

If flying whales existed in this world, then direct manipulation of people surely existed too.

«I wonder how the Seon Guard will handle this,» — Lon smirked inwardly.

He pulled himself out of his thoughts and looked at the two doctors.

— Were there any other interesting news?

John shook his head:

— Unfortunately, no. I only know that lately, there's been a sharp rise in explosions and shootouts in Seon...

Vosen nodded:

— Yes-yes, I've noticed it too. In recent days, there have also been more and more patients...

Lon nodded and realized he wasn't the only one noticing the oddities in Seon.

— What do you think is causing all this?

Vosen shrugged, and John adjusted his glasses and suggested:

— It might be some dark organization trying to achieve something through explosions and shootouts.

— I'm not entirely sure about this theory. But... it could be valid. Maybe those who are doing this clearly aren't doing it for no reason. — John replied.

Lon nodded, showing agreement with John, but still added:

— I also roughly hold to that opinion. Maybe not a dark organization, but some group of people doing this for their own purposes. And if their goal is really to attract the attention of the Five Structures, then they're succeeding. The government clearly won't ignore this issue.

It's important to understand that the power of the state was no joke. Although Seon wasn't a superpower like the Empire of Zaka or the Kingdom of Logan, it had significant strength that needed to be reckoned with.

Those who carried out these raids on ordinary citizens, in Lon's opinion, didn't have the strength to fight an entire state. They were just little rats trying to attract the attention of a dragon.

The two doctors nodded.

John smiled and said to Lon:

— Alright, Mr. Renvel, get well soon, we'll be going now. — he waved.

— Good luck, Mr. Renvel!

They left through the door, and Lon was left alone in the ward.

He sighed and realized he needed to recover quickly and finally get outside, because at this rate, he'd die from boredom sooner than from a bullet.

«Although a quiet and peaceful life in the hospital is nice... compared to the rest of the world, it's like heaven and earth.»

«To personally experience the culture of this world, and its unique traits — it's interesting. To ride on airships or flying ships, to see the local creatures and learn about them, to observe how people live — all of this is very fascinating. And no hospital in the world could offer anything like that.»

«I've already spent seven days in this world... And all this time, I've only been in the hospital... My strong patience has already begun to fade. And the desire to just run away has grown... But I'm an adult, so I can wait another week. And finally, after all this, I'll see the world.»

Lon's eyes sparkled slightly.

«But no matter what, once I get out, the obstacles on my path will only grow, and I may not feel a life like in the hospital again... Though, I don't think so, because in this world I have a family who cares about me.» — Lon smiled.

«Well, now we just have to wait.» — he reached out for the book and began to read it.
