Chapter 7 - Fans’ Doubts? Step by Step Towards an All-Around Midfielder

Pierre secured the No. 10 jersey as he had hoped.

Unlike other leagues, Premier League signings weren't formal affairs.

No press conference.

No fan event.

After signing the contract, he simply took a photo with the head coach and sporting director, holding his new jersey. The club posted it on their official website, updated his player information, and that was it.

His arrival barely made a ripple in England, let alone Europe or even his home country. There were no reports, no media buzz—just quiet discussions among Liverpool fans.

After all, if you weren't a Liverpool supporter, you wouldn't be checking their website.

[A Chinese player? Wearing the No. 10 jersey? Am I dreaming?]

[He's a Chinese-American, not a full Chinese player! The player bio says so. Otherwise, he wouldn't have gotten a work permit.]

[This is ridiculous!]

[Giving the No. 10 jersey to an 18-year-old? What is the club thinking?]

[I looked him up! Pierre came from La Masia but got released by Barcelona last month. Rumor is, he fought Dembele and refused to apologize!]

[Wait, really? How does someone like that get signed, let alone handed the No. 10 jersey?]

[Actually, I love it! Anything that annoys Barcelona is a win for us.]

[If he's good enough, I'll be cheering for him at Anfield!]

It didn't take long for fans to dig up Pierre's background. Many thought giving him the No. 10 was a joke, but others—especially those who still resented Coutinho's departure to Barcelona—were thrilled.

Liverpool fans hated Barcelona. They wanted to face them in the Champions League and crush them. Anyone who had embarrassed Barcelona was welcomed with open arms.

But in general, the skepticism outweighed the support.

Pierre would have to prove himself.

Liverpool, a Wealthy Suburb

Inside a spacious villa, Mendes personally gave Pierre a tour.

"What do you think? Not bad, right? I picked this place just for you!" Mendes said, grinning.

After finalizing the contract with Liverpool, Mendes' team had found Pierre a house.

"Oh, and guess what? You don't have to pay a single penny in rent."

Pierre frowned. "That's a little suspicious."

Who in their right mind would offer free rent?

Did being reborn into this life mess with reality?

"Gerrard owns the house," Mendes explained. "When he heard a new Liverpool player needed a place, he called me and offered it—completely free of charge."

Pierre nodded in understanding. That explained the small football pitch in the backyard.

Steven Gerrard, a club legend, had an undying love for Liverpool. Even after moving to the U.S. for his final playing years, he still looked out for new players.

"Tell him thanks for me, but I'm paying rent," Pierre said firmly. "I don't like owing favors."

With a father who was a banking tycoon and a mother who was a renowned jewelry designer, he had no shortage of money.

"I figured you'd say that. The rent's already been transferred," Mendes replied, laughing. "I've also arranged a nutritionist, personal trainer, housekeeper, and security. Everything's set up. Your only job is to play well—I'll handle the rest."

Pierre appreciated the effort.

"In an hour, I'm flying to Madrid to handle Cristiano's contract renewal," Mendes added. "If you need anything, call me or my assistant."

He gave Pierre a firm pat on the shoulder.

"Play hard. Stay disciplined. If you do that, I'll help you become a world-class star."

Then he was gone.

That evening, Pierre forced down a bland meal prepared by his nutritionist.

After an hour of training, he took a shower and finally had time to check the system.

[Negative Emotion Points: 8,632]

Seeing the number, Pierre couldn't help but smile.

Just one training session, and Salah had contributed over 8,000 points.

What a great teammate.

He almost wanted to call Salah up and sing: "Thank you for everything…"

Meanwhile, in a nearby villa, Salah, who had just fallen asleep, suddenly woke up in a cold sweat.

Lottery Time

"System, I want to draw a lottery!"

[Negative Emotion Points: 8,632. A lottery draw costs 5,000 points. Confirm?]

"Yes."

[5,000 points deducted. Remaining balance: 3,632.]

[Starting lottery…]

A familiar spinning wheel appeared in his mind.

It slowed, then stopped.

The pointer landed on a golden treasure chest.

[Congratulations! You've won a Golden Treasure Chest ×1.]

[Would you like to open it?]

Golden chests were mid-tier. The last time he opened one, he had unlocked max-level basic skills.

Pierre's heart raced.

"Open!"

The chest cracked open in his mind.

[You've obtained the 'God's Perspective' talent.]

Pierre's eyes widened.

God's Perspective?

With this, he'd be able to see the entire field more clearly.

On offense, he could find gaps in the defense.

On defense, he could anticipate attacks and close them down.

Combined with his God-Level Prediction, it was an unstoppable combination.

The system was shaping him step by step into an all-around midfielder.
