Chapter 3 - Chapter 3. Visit to the courtyard

Janet made sure her bedroom door was properly locked before she spoke to her daughter.

"Juliet you have to go the countryside"

"Huh, but why mum, you know I don't like it there" Juliet complained.

"I know my dear, but now that Alvina failed to get her hands on her mother's belongings, I'm sure she would go the country side for grandmother's belongings"

"Does Grandma have valuable things there??" Juliet asked

"Of course, that old lady was a well known doctor, even though she practiced only in the village and treated people there, she received a lot of money and saved a lot of movies" Janet explained.

" Prepare, you will leave tomorrow, we can't let Alvina search that room before us and save her mother, remember if Grace survives, we will lose everything"

Janet warned, her eyes wide.

And Juliet quickly agreed.

Alvina made her way home and prepared herbal soup for her mother.

She stood at the door and stared at her mother through the glass.

Tears slipped down her eyes and she clenched her fists.

"Alvina"

She Heard a familiar voice behind her and she knew who it was. She quickly wiped her tears and forced a smile.

"Doctor Daniel"

Daniel saw her dried tears but didn't bring it up since she didn't want to talk about it.

"The weather is nice tonight, can we have a chat after you see your mother??" Daniel asked and Alvina nodded.

"Sure" she also had something to talk to him about.

Alvina fed her mother the herbal soup and she drank it happily.

"Alvina dear, your soups make me feel a lot better than the medicines I take in the hospital"

Grace said to her daughter and Alvina smiled.

"I'll keep making them for you mother and when you recover, we can try other delicacies together"

Alvina whisphered, her eyes sparkled and she looked like a girl her age.

Gone was the strong girl she showed people.

She nestled in her mother's arms and heard her sing lullabies.

"Mother, I promise I'll find the money and you can recover, we can leave Country V and go to other cities, try out new foods and traditions. I can take any job and cater for you, you don't have to work, just stay home and wait for me.

I'll buy you beautiful jewelries and give you a happy life"

These were her dreams. Her voice was clear, filled with several emotions and as it fell in Grace's ears tears welled up in her eyes but she smiled.

"Alvina, if I don't survive, don't blame yourself, ok, I love you very much and I hope you can continue to live without me" Grace whispered and she grabbed her daughter's hands.

Alvina choked and she couldn't find the right words to say. She wanted to ask why she was saying such things but in the end she simply whispered a few words.

"Ok mother, I will leave for you"

The room fell silent until Alvina spoke.

"I'll be going to the countryside, I'll leave tomorrow"

"Mhmm ok" Grace replied without asking why.

"Take care of yourself while I'm gone mother, doctor Daniel will take care of you, I've prepared the herbal soups down, you can take them while I'm gone"

"Don't worry Alvina, I'll be fine" Grace replied.

"I'll be back in three days," Alvina added.

"Ok"

Alvina watched as her mother drifted to sleep, she kissed her cheeks before stepping out.

Daniel was already waiting at the roadside.

He stood under the nighttime lights, his features neither striking or unattractive. His face was a gentle oval shape with a nose that was slightly rounded at the tip and eyes that were a middling brown.

His hair was a sandy blonde colour, cut in a straightforward style that framed his face without drawing attention to itself.

His build was average, neither masculine nor slight, and his posture was relaxed, giving off an air of quite normalcy .

He wore a simple outfit that didn't particularly stand out and his expression was calm making him easily blend into the crowd.

Overall he was a man who didn't draw attention to himself but was still pleasant to look at.

Alvina walked up to him and he smiled.

They both stood at the side of the road staring at the crowd on the streets.

The Cold wind blew and Alvina stretched out her arms with a smile and inhaled it.

Daniel stared at the girl beside her, the lights illuminated on her face, showcasing her delicate and pretty appearance. Her neck was covered with a scarf and her entire body was hidden in a large coat.

She looked adorable like a little bunny and he felt like reaching out and rubbing her head.

But he was afraid, he didn't want to show his affections and ruin their relationship.

After some time, Alvina raised her head and stared at the moon.

"Doctor Daniel, I'll be leaving for a while, please take care of my mother"

"Alright, take care" Daniel said and mustered the courage to hold her hands.

Alvina froze for a moment, then shifted her gaze from the moon to look at him.

"Doctor Daniel when my mother recovers, we'll take you out" she whispered and Daniel smiled.

"What are your plans, after your mother recovers, what do you want to do??" He asked and Alvina blinked twice, she hadn't really thought about it.

"I'll just go back to school" she blurted out.

Daniel was surprised. "School?? How old are you??

"I'm fifteen, " Alvina replied.

"Fifteen?? He didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Was he in love with a fifteen year old??

Alvina stared at him for a moment before saying "I'm just a little girl, doctor Daniel, just a little girl"

Her voice trailed off on her last words and Daniel wondered if she was warning him to let go of his feelings because she was young and he gulped.

But when he stared at her smiling face, he realized she didn't know about his feelings at all, she was just happy to be young.

And Daniel sighed.
