Chapter 3 - 3. Meeting the Stranger Again

Skye paused as she looked at the man. "The car that hit you this morning was my car," said the man who understood what Skye meant.

"Ah, yes, sir. My leg is fine," Skye replied with a smile. "You don't have to think about it, because what happened this morning was my fault, not your driver's," Skye continued, still smiling.

"So, this is all you ordered, sir?" Skye asked again with a smile.

"Yes," the man replied briefly.

Skye gave the man a cigarette. "How much?" the man asked as Skye just scanned them without mentioning the amount he had to pay.

"This is for you, sir. To thank you for giving me your handkerchief," Skye replied with a smile.

The man didn't say anything, but he took a 100-dollar bill from his wallet and placed it on the counter after he took his cigarette.

"Sir, the money," said Skye, who took the money and immediately ran out of the counter. Unfortunately, she was outpaced by the man who had already gotten into his car and driven away.

Skye stared at the departure of the car carrying the man. "Doesn't he like me? Is that why he won't accept my thanks?" Skye asked.

"It seems that I don't deserve to be liked by people. They must be annoyed to be close to me," Skye said again with a wry smile.

Can't help it, isn't that what happened in her life? Even her own best friend stayed away from her, choosing to go with Skye's boyfriend. Skye did not deserve to have someone she could be best friends with.

She then looked at the 100-dollar. It was a large amount of money just for a pack of cigarettes. She went inside the convenience store to continue her work. She kept the change from the stranger and would return it when they met again. Although she wasn't sure whether the stranger would take the money or not. She who wanted to say thank you with just a pack of cigarettes was not accepted, let alone this change, even though it was the stranger's money.

As the day went on, Skye's ankle still hurt. Even her leg looks swollen. She herself had put a patch on her foot and had also compressed her foot with warm water. However, it didn't seem to help her sprained foot at all.

Today there was no activity on campus, so she had gone to work at the convenience store. At one o'clock in the afternoon, the friend who was going to replace her arrived. "Skye, do you have any more work today?" asked her coworker.

"No more," she replied. "What's wrong?" she continued to ask.

"Can you replace my friend as a parking attendant?" Skye's coworker asked.

"Ah, I want to. How many hours do I have to work?" Skye asked enthusiastically.

"Just an hour, because my friend has something to do that he can't leave," her friend replied.

"Oh, okay," Skye replied with a smile.

"Don't worry, the pay is not bad even if you only replace my friend for an hour," said Skye's coworker.

"Yes, thank you, Alex, for offering me a job," Skye said with a smile.

After working at the convenience store, Skye went straight to the job that Alex had offered her. There she met a supervisor who would give Skye directions on how to manage the cars entering the basement. After being directed by the supervisor, Skye started working.

"Isn't she the woman who was hit by a car a few days ago?" asked a man who was driving a car.

Another man sitting in the passenger seat looked out the window. He could see the woman again. He then looked at Skye's leg, which looked fine. He frowned when he saw Skye running with a limping leg. Not far from Skye, it turned out that three people who were in the car in front of the man's car got out and chased Skye.

The car was moving again, the man stopped looking at Skye, and he went back to looking at his work from his tablet screen. Skye continued to run away from the men chasing her. They were the debt collectors. Skye kept running even though it felt like her legs were no longer strong enough to run. Her legs hurt so much, especially since her legs were swollen without any change from when she was accidentally hit by a car.

Skye continued to force her legs to run. Sweat was already pouring down her forehead. Those people were still chasing her. She wanted to stop running, but she could not. If she stopped, she would be caught and beaten if she couldn't pay. She had already paid her debt, but the interest was increasing instead of decreasing, so the debt was still unpaid.

Suddenly someone pulled her into a doorway. The person smothered Skye's mouth to keep her quiet so that the people chasing her wouldn't hear her. The person who pulled her now put his ear to the door, making sure the person who was chasing Skye had left. After making sure the person chasing Skye was gone, the man moved his body away to look at Skye, who was now silent.

Skye's heart was beating so fast right now. Not because she had been chased by the loan shark's men, but because someone she didn't know suddenly helped her, making her afraid that this person would do more harm to her. "Are you okay?" asked the man, who Skye could see had a worried look on his face.

Seeing the look on the face of the man in front of her and the man who helped her turned out to be a handkerchief man, made Skye immediately smile. "I'm fine, thank you for helping me," Skye said with a smile.

"Can you only smile?" asked the man, who now looked angry.

"Ah, sorry," said Skye, then bowed her head. She can only apologize because what she does often makes people angry.
