I was still sitting in my office, my mind running through the conversation I'd just had with Nancy, when suddenly. BANG!
The door slammed open so hard that the walls seemed to tremble.
Before I could even process what was happening— SLAP!
A burning sting exploded across my left cheek, my head snapping to the side from the sheer force of the hit.
A sharp, metallic taste filled my mouth.
The room went eerily silent.
My fingers trembled as they reached up to my face, pressing against the burning skin in pure shock.

Slowly, I turned my head back, my eyes locking onto the rage-filled face of the man who had just struck me.
Edward Blair.
My so-called father.
Nancy, who had been in the room just moments ago, quickly slipped out, shutting the door behind her.

I let out a slow breath, trying to keep my composure, but I could feel the fury rising like a storm inside me.
