Chapter 46: The Worst Assassination Attempt in History
Raphael had faced ambushes, betrayals, and near-death experiences more times than he could count.
But nothing—absolutely nothing—could have prepared him for what awaited him at Riot's café.
It had started as a simple idea.
Call up an old friend, secure extra protection for Ines, and maybe, just maybe, get a decent cup of coffee in the process.
"I asked for a decaf latte, not this filth!" the old woman huffed, slamming the cup down with surprising force for someone who looked like she knitted sweaters for a living.
"It is decaf, you maniac!" Riot barked, setting the other cups down before gesturing wildly at the café menu.
"It literally says 'decaf' right there!"
"I know what I ordered!" she yelled back, crossing her arms. "This tastes like anxiety and regret!"
"Lady, that's just coffee," Riot deadpanned.
Ines let out a quiet snort while Raphael pinched the bridge of his nose.
