She wasn't a bad cook, just maybe not with the eggs.
"Oh, woe, the eggs!" She squealed, trying to turn off the stove, but again, there was confusion, and I had to help her. I guessed I should take my words back. She was the worst cook. "Oh, no... this seems... overcooked," she said with a wry smile, making her pretty face look even more adorable.
"Clara, it's... not overcooked. It's burnt," I replied, which made her look shocked, judging by how she widened her eyelids, and it really made me want to pinch her cheeks.
"Inedible?" she asked innocently. I shook my head regretfully, which made her look disappointed.
"You said you could cook," I quipped. She set the spatula on the table, opened the top cupboard, and showed me many instant foods there.
"Only this kind of food."
We were silent for a long time, looking at each other, and I honestly didn't know how to respond to her innocent words. If I replied with a joke, I wasn't sure if she was humorous enough. What if she was upset?
